10 things you may not know about Carenity!

Published Apr 21, 2021 • By Léa Blaszczynski

Today we are happy to celebrate Carenity's 10th anniversary with you!

10 things you may not know about Carenity!

Ten years ago to the day, the first version of the Carenity website went online in France! The platform would later go international, first within Europe and the UK and then on to the US.

On this special day, we'd like to mark the occasion by sharing ten things you may not yet know about Carenity!

1.

Michael Chekroun created Carenity after realising how difficult it was to connect with patients and their families and find reliable information about patient care and available treatments.Michael has a close family member with a chronic illness, which prompted him to develop Carenity in 2011.

2.

When Carenity was launched, the platform had 12 communities (for 12 different illnesses). Today, there are almost a thousand communities, including a large number of rare illnesses.

3.

The name Carenity was chosen for its juxtaposition of the word "Care", and "nity", taken from the word community

4.

After raising €1.5 million in funding in 2015, Carenity was able to spread its wings by launching a platform in the UK, Italy, Spain and Germany, also in 2015.

5.

Our team is made up of around thirty people from diverse backgrounds and of around ten different nationalities (France, England, Mexico, Spain, Italy, Germany, United States, Venezuela, China, Morocco...) Our team is closely knit and supportive of one another every day, all with the same goal in mind: to improve the daily lives of patients and their families.

6.

The site has so far undergone two redesigns (in 2014 and 2017) with the aim of improving user experience. Over the years, a "Give your opinion on medications" (not yet available on Carenity US) and the Health Magazine features have been created. Each day, our IT team makes improvements in order to meet your expectations as best as possible.

7.

Our mascot is named Epi, which comes from Epione in Greek mythology. Epione is the goddess of the soothing of pain. She is the wife of Asclepius, god of medicine.

8.

Carenity has had a mobile app since 2018. It's a web-app, meaning that it is a version of the site made more accessible through an app format. You can check it out in the Apple Store or Google Play!

9.

In 2018, Carenity created its platform for patients living in the US. It now has over 30,000 members.

10.

Carenity has opened its first foreign office in Boston, Massachusetts, one of the world capitals for biotech and medical research.

-

For the 10th anniversary, Michael Chekroun, Carenity's founder, wanted to share a few words with you:

"Carenity is 10 years old today.

From our beginnings at the Cochin Hospital, to our current offices in Paris and Boston, more than 110 employees have contributed to Carenity's immense success.

Today, more than 500,000 patients worldwide benefit from our services. Carenity is available in 5 languages and covers nearly a thousand chronic and rare illnesses. Every year, a hundred or so studies and publications focused on the "real life" of patients enable actors in the life sciences to improve patients' daily lives.

The 10th anniversary of Carenity's launch marks the opening of a new chapter as we join forces with XClinical and Fortress Medical Systems to create EvidentIQ Group, an innovative player whereby data science and technology will enable us to offer a better service to patients and researchers.

I would like to thank you warmly for your trust and loyalty, you who have supported and accompanied us throughout this extraordinary journey. And rest assured that we are more than ever at your side in these complicated times.

"There is no end. There is no beginning. There is only the infinite passion of life." - Federico Fellini

A big congratulations to the Carenity family and many thanks to each of our members!

Michael Chekroun,
President."
