Symptoms other than the usual digestive issues

Thank you for sharing @Userlevel6‍. The facts are a guideline and it is great to hear the opinions from our members of their symptoms.

Are these the symptoms you are experiencing? How are you controlling these other symptoms?

Had all these pre-diagnosis, as well as an anal fistula.  I am not having these symptoms currently.  I believe I've been helped a lot by a low dose of Celexa (citalopram generic) that my gastroenterologist started me on.  When I turned 50, anxiety and depression hit me in a big way, and I think the citalopram totally reversed that for me.

Current research has pegged Crohn's as an immune disorder, it's not just IBS, and my personal experiences certainly seem to fit that.  Over the years I've also had some warts and a little bit of psoriasis, and I believe they were also part of my screwball immune system.  It all seems to tie together.

@Userlevel6‍ I also experience mouth sores and anxiety!

That is amazing that Celexa fixed that for you! I still get anxiety and depression and I am on escitalopram (Lexapro) and have been on it for years... not sure the difference between the two. I get ups and downs... sometimes the downs can be major.

How do you know the anxiety and depression is related to crohn's? I always thought it was just two different diagnoses????

Depression and anxiety connected to Crohn's?  It's something I've been told by my gastroenterologist and my MD, and I've read it on the web in a place or two.  I've connected the dots in my own personal experience, and I've become convinced it was part of the package I've lived with pretty much my whole life.

I agree. I think most experience some form of depression or anxiety when diagnosed with a chronic condition, but from the bit I have read chron's seems to have a higher rate of depression than other chronic conditions.

Glad to hear yours cleared up @Userlevel6‍ .... I still struggle day to day.

So far so good.  Seems like I had a low-grade anxiety in my youth, which got worse after age 18, and depression symptoms came along with it at that time.  Between the ages of about 5 and 15 I had mouth sores, and I had a ticklish sensation from time to time in my head.  At 50 I was able to recognize the tickle as anxiety, but prior to that age I just thought I had some over-active brain activity; that I might actually be feeling electro-chemical energy maybe?  I'm in electrical engineering & always had a knack for tinkering with & fixing electronics, so maybe that's just the way I understand "life" in general.  Seems like my intuition was right-on, I just didn't have a proper definition for it until it got debilitating & I couldn't shut off my mind.  It was like a switch went off, possibly triggered by a personal emotional event that happened on my 50th birthday.

I think the combination of citalopram and Entyvio together have addressed things for me.  I started both around the same time, so it's hard to say which does me more good.  Also I continued to use cannabis until right before my surgery, and then for a couple weeks afterward until I could get the Entyvio started up again.  Today I'm not symptomatic & adjusting well, no "withdrawl" cravings or anything, although I do miss my old cannabis routine sometimes.
