@Courtney_J For me it's warm compresses and warm showers in the morning, regular long walks to keep everything moving well, and then cold packs afterwards to prevent swelling.

I had a right hip replacement because the pain from the osteoarthritis and bone-on-bone was beyond tolerable and I had two choices: addictive opiods or surgery. I chose surgery. However, I have pain in both hands and there is no surgery to correct that. I deal with it through exercising my fingers, soaking my hands in hot water with epsom salts, and making sure that my hands never get cold because cold makes the pain much, much worse. I wear gloves when necessary and sometimes people tease me about that because they don't think it's THAT cold but I couldn't care less about what others think.

Warmth, when and where appropriate, and yes gloves, heck I even wear a pair of white cotton ones to sleep in, when needed.
and yes OTC pain meds as per my doctors recommendation, I also flex exercise when I can, the hip, shoulder and chest pains are a bit harder to deal with, the chest is from a form of costochondritis.
i use meditation every day, I have an acupuncture mat that I lay on when needed. And for my hands, playing guitar helps keep flexable, though sometimes very painful
my biggest issue is that I am blessed? With every form of arthritis, so I have learned to know when to say no about things, when to rest and when to be active.
what I miss the most though is the hot tub I had in Arizona, I thought about one here in IL, but with the cost of putting one in, then a building around it for year round usage, along with freezing issues, well just not a financial issue I want to deal with at this time.
land at 6 feet tall or close to that, 5 foot tubs just do not work.

@Mark-IL Yikes - costochondritis! The first time I experienced that I was 100% positive I was having a heart attack. I called 911, the paramedics didn't think it was actually a heart attack but took no chances, treated me with oxygen, and took me to the ER. I was seen by a cardiologist and he diagnosed costochondritis. He showed me how to press and massage my sternum to relieve the pain and recommended that at the first sign of pain I chew two aspirin tablets. I couldn't stand the taste of regular aspirin so, instead, the next time I had an attack I chewed four orange-flavored baby aspirin - it worked. Thankfully I haven't had an attack in about 20 years but I am never without a bottle of baby aspirin in the house and I even carry one in my purse just in case.
