Hi, I'm a lupus thriver of 14 years. I am currently a Doctoral Candidate at the University of North Carolina Charlotte. For my dissertation, I am performing a quality of life study for individuals with lupus. This study is completely anonymous and voluntary. This study includes types of social support and feelings about ourselves and our disease that impact our quality of life. I would greatly appreciate help in getting my study out to other thrivers.
Help another lupus thriver out!!!

I am about to have my fifth major surgery for osteoarthritis. Last year I had my second spinal fusion and this year I am having a resurfacing to my hip replacement because of dislocation. Does anyone have any helpful hints on how to stay upbeat? I had to cancel a trip to England due to the upcoming surgery. Thank you for making me a part of this group. Laura K

So along with RA, Lupus, sjogren's, DDD, ADD, bursitis, and more... i also have OA. I must have not been living right (hehe). I don't that this helos for any long period but for me it works several hours. And I'm not a salesperson for this... but I use deep blue rub by doterra. I rub it from my upper back all the way down to my toes... it is just different to me then anything else i have used my knees are so painful... at night i rub deep blue on my knees then put a hot wet towel over my knees or even the heating pad. It's is better than blue emu, bengay, icy hot.
Just my experience

Thanks Glenda-I will try this. In my case my dad suffered all his short life with arthritis so I picked up the gene. I also have fibromyalgia, allergies and asthma. They know I have another autoimmune disiease but can't put their finger on what it is. Stretching helps me with the arthritis and fibro. Staying in the house helps with the allergies/asthma.I try to keep a sense of humor about all of it but it gets tough. Having a hip resurfacing done since my artificial hip popped out on 6/24. The surgery is 8/10 and then I go to rehab for two weeks. Stay in touch with me and hopefully we can help each other. How do we send a friend request? If I knew I would send you one and then we could chat.

Canabidiol: rub some oil of cannabis for sharp and intence pain at night.
oral cannabis oil: 15 drops under the tongue every morning. Results are visible after the 4th day.
tumeric : a tea spoon in every drink every day.
ginger : juice a branch every night with green. juice a whole branch. You can make tea of it too.
alkaline diet , this is a life still when you basically avoid any acid food and consume a lot of alkaline food. See the acid-alkaline food guide for reference.
I wish you the best of the best!

@klosslau , I feel your struggle and pain and I am sorry you are going through this and I hope all will come out well. I have had over 10 ten surgeries and 90% failed. Being upbeat is not the easiest and it is not easier when people see you and they cannot tell you have or have had multiple surgeries and are in pain. However, what helps me is being around family and my fiance. I have found family is more important than ever.

I agree Lee-my family means everything to me. My husband lacks understanding on all of it. He is still very spry at 74 and doesn't understand the rest of us. My friends are also a godsend to me. I meet with three of them tomorrow for lunch and I forget my pain when I am with them. They and my faith in God really see me through. I also have a 24 year old granddaughter who is the light of my life so there is much to be grateful for. I look young for my age so that is a mixed blessing. You are right-a lot of people cannot believe that I have so much wrong with me.
I am so sorry about your failed surgeries. Mine have all been successful except for my hip which hopefully will be fixed by upcoming surgery. I need a replacement on the left hip next year. I learned the hard way on being very careful when choosing a surgeon. I have been very fortunate that I have had a nurse friend to guide me along as I go. She is now in a nursing home so I am on my own but asked the back surgeon about a hip doctor.
I am glad to see that fish oil and tumeric are helping you. Both are out for me since I have a touchy stomach. I rely on Celebrex for my Osteo and Muscle relaxants for my fibro. Life is good but it is definitely more limited.

@Marglen I will try the oil and see if it helps. I get stomach issues from turmeric and omega 3. I rely mostly on expensive drugs for my pain and would like to get away from that. Thank you Margien

@klosslau Good! Don’t expect results before the 4th day! It takes a few days to start working!

Hello Carenity members,
I have had numerous surgeries on my clavicle (in fact, I have the first ever done surgery on my clavicle and I am in some medical books - have basically very minimal of my original clavicle and ligaments in my arm) so I have discomfort every day in my AC and SC joint. I have experimented with numerous natural herbs and supplements, but what has become a staple for me is fish oil (~4,000 EPA and 1,500 DHA mg of fish oil) and tumeric (3 grams daily).
What supplements / herbs have any of you tried and found success with? Please list the name of the herb/supplement, dosage, and succes/non-success.
Thank you.
