Hello,
I was diagnosed with schizophrenia approximately 15 years ago and I spent much of that time on anti psychotic meds and others, including anti-depressants... I was the cocktail of meds. However, I have been anti psychotic med free for some years now thanks to a doctor who believed I could be able to live a fulfilling life of the drugs... I slowly began taking less and less until I was off the drugs. The doctor had recommended CBT - Cognitive Behavioral Therapy - which I have been doing, in addition to normal counseling. I also focus on channeling and understanding my psychosis, its factors, and dealing with it. I have also engulfed myself into my work, exercise, a healthy diet, fish oil, amino acids, vitamin c, and alanine. I try to also make sure I get my rest.
I have tried acupuncture and other chinese meds, but do not go that route any longer.
I am interested in learning about those here with Schizophrenia? Are you taking medications and which? Or do you not take medications and how are you doing and what type of treatments or life-style do you follow? What has your success been? Do you still get minor or major psychotic episodes?
