I'm the oldest of three, and I am the first to have Crohns in my family on either side. Both of my younger brothers are now getting checkups to test for this. I was married to a girl and her brothers both had it, one of them had the same surgery I had and an ostomy, but he had it re-connected and soon unfortunately developed colon cancer and died a painful death at age 32. That is the reason I will not have my ostomy removed and reattached, colon cancer has to be one of the worst and most painful ways to die.

Wow, it's so interesting to see how Crohn's can seemingly run in familieis but then also just "pop" up in some cases. I'm another tick on the hereditary box, we think my great grandfather had it, my uncle had it, we think my cousin has it, and then there's me. Funny how it jumps around the family tree too.

I'm also the lone Crohn's wolf in my family. Guess I've got a "bad" gene mutation or something. Interesting how it's different for some people.

Hi all,
How are you today? I thought I would create this discussion as it may be interesting for us to share!
Both genetic and environmental factors have been found to play a role in the chances of developing Crohn's disease.
Have you found the same to be true within your family? Does anyone else in your family have Crohn's? Or are you the first to be diagnosed?
