Hi @peachyos
How are you doing?
I am sorry to hear about your partner. It is always hard to lose someone we love, especially one that you have care for for a lifetime. I'm sure there are Carenity members who have experienced something similar. Let me tag a few members to see if they can offer any advice.

Have you lost a loved one that you cared for? How did you handle your transition from carer to only caring for yourself?
Take care,

Hi @peachyos. Am really very sorry for your special loss of partner!! I've never lost a significant other, but have lost both folks. It hurts SO bad!!!! I didn't have pleasure of caring for them, but feel their absence daily. Grieving takes Long time!! Take long as u need. There's no timeline.
Would grief support group help? I was in a couple ones, some more helpful than others. Depending where u live, reach out to see what's available. I wish u all the best.

I am deeply sorry for the tragic loss of your partner. Although I have lost both parents, I have never lost a spouse. I am in excruciating pain. I miss them every day, even though I didn't enjoy taking care of them. Bereavement is a lengthy process! Go at your own pace. I don't have a schedule.

I’ve been caring for my partner for the past 63 years. We don’t have children, I have dedicated my life to his wellness and happiness. He passed away a few months ago and I’m still trying to wrap my head around it. Such a major part of my life is now gone. Has anyone else gone through this? How did you deal with the loneliness and the freedom? I’ve never had this few responsibilities and I’m not sure what to do with all the time and lack of direction:
