I have high cholesterol and am moderately obese; however, I have not had any type of surgery.
I have been considering the Sleeve gastrectomy surgery to reduce my stomach size. Has anyone had any success or experiences with this?
I have heard the stomach can re-strech to the original size, however, that it was pre-surgery.
I am trying to accomplish everything by myself with diet and exercise, but it is difficuct. I do not want to take the easy way out... but, if it can help I Am interested.

I've recently started thinking about this. I've heard that sometimes it doesn't work and people end up gaining back what they lose. I'd appreciate any insights or opinions if anyone has any! Thanks!

@clarence1954 I've heard the same, and my doctor at one point told me it was becoming less and less common as it has a high "failure rate". I'm still interested to hear from anyone who may have done it to know if it was a success for them or not.

Hi, has anyone gotten this done? I've struggled with my weight my whole life and it's caused all sorts of health problems for me. My diabetes is really bad so I'm wondering if this can be a savior for me.

Hello @diabeticsurv, thank you for opening this discussion. We wrote an article a few months ago on the different types of bariatric surgery that you may find helpful. Here's the link: Obesity: What surgical treatments are available?Let me tag some other members who can possibly share with you.
Hi everyone, how are you today? Have any of you considered or gotten bariatric surgery (sleeve, gastric bypass, band)? If so, can you share your experience? For those who haven't, is this something you'd consider?

I had a gastric bypass in 1981 when I was at my highest weight of 328lbs. By the end of 1982, I was at 164lbs. I kept the weight off for almost 10 years and then it started creeping back up. I am an emotional eater and my oldest daughter was always in trouble. This is not an excuse. I joined Weight Watchers in October 2017 and lost 65 lbs, but had terrible acid reflux that caused pneumonia. In December 2019, the surgeon told me that I had a hiatal hernia that is common in early bypass patients. He fixed everything in March 2020 and I now weigh 145lbs. This is the smallest I have ever been in my adult life, and I am healthier, more active and more confident than I have ever been. Would I do it again, definitely. When they originally did bypass surgery they followed the protocol for the 1980s. Now they have learned that it's not just about the operation, it's about health. My surgeon is a life saver for me and he took the time to explain that original bypasses always had a fail rate. They are so much safer now and when you have the right doctor and medical team, it is worth the little bit of pain and discomfort for a lifetime of health.

Three common operations used for weight loss in individuals who are overweight is Gastric Bypass, Sleeve Gastrectomy, and Adjustable Gastric Band.
Each surgery has its pros and cons and certain procedures are often recommended by medical practicioners over others for certain individuals because of risks, contraindications, age, etc.
Here, discuss what surgery you had? Did you consider other possible surgical options? What led you to electing that particular surgery? And anything else related to choosing a Bariatric Surgery Option.
