I have 25 years exp helping people with Medicaid, Medicare, understanding all they are entitled to, my last exp was with my mom, I'm not even sure if i should go into detail. you may want to inbox me, her problem was she got very sick then fell and broke her wrist, she is also anemic, with that being said, after surgery she had to go into a nursing home for therapy, she did not have Medicaid just Medicare, she made 300.00 too much to qualify, to make a long story short, Medicare was only going to pay for 23 days, after that she would be charged 300.00 per day, there is a way around that which i was able to get for her, instead of 300 per day it was 200 per month, not sure if i should elaborate? but its so unfair that our elderly and disabled are kept in the dark about what they are entitled to, how they can get qualified , also the place they took my mom , was horrible! she called me at 2am to say they left her naked in the bed and she urinated on the bed, i ran out of the house drove for an hour, banged on the doors, ran to her room and it was horrible, i walked into the bathroom and there was a commercial trash can in there, i had to get her out, i did my research made my calls, and got her a 5 star facility 15 minutes from my home, some people don't realize that they have a choice,, I'm sorry this was so long, i hope it helped.

@Magdamaria2 Hi there,
Thank you for sharing your experience, this was both eye-opening and heartbreaking. It’s incredible that you were able to advocate for your mom and navigate such a complicated system to get her the care she deserved. Unfortunately, as you mentioned, many people aren’t aware of what they’re entitled to or how to access it.
If you're comfortable sharing more advice, what should you look out for when choosing care homes or rehabilitation centers? Is there anything you wish you had known about beforehand?
Take care,

@Somya.P YES, DO YOUR RESEARCH, YOU ARE THE BOSS OF YOUR CARE, IF THE FACILITY DOESN,T MEET UR STANDARDS LOOK FOR THE ONES THAT HAVE 4 TO 5 STARS, CALL UP AND ASK IF THERE ARE ANY BEDS, IF NOT FOLLOW UP, PEOPLE ARE DISCHARGED DAILY. WHEN ASKED WHY YOU WANT TO TRANSFER NEVER BAD MOUTH THE FACILITY YOU ARE IN AS BAD AS IT MAY BE, JUST SAY THEIR FACILITY IS CLOSER TO HOME AND CLOSER FOR FAMILY MEMBERS TO VISIT. IF U HAVE MEDICARE ONLY, REMEMBER, THEY WILL ONLY PAY FOR 30 DAYS THEN U MAY BE CHARGED 200 PER DAY. DON'T LET THAT HAPPEN, GET MEDIGAP IMMEDIATELY, IF YOU MAKE A LITTLE TOO MUCH TO GET MEDICAID, LOOK INTO A TRUST FUND THATWILL SAVE YOU MONEY ON LAWYERS , THEY WILL PUT YOU IN THE RIGHT BRACKET TO GET THE MEDICAID BY OPENING A TRSUT . EXAMPLE 500 PER MONTH FOR RENT WOULD BE TAKEN OUT AND DEDUCTED FROM YOUR SSI.

Hello @Magdamaria2,
Thank you for this valuable advice! Your reminder to thoroughly research facilities and stay proactive about bed availability and transfers is so empowering. It’s a smart approach to avoid any negativity when requesting a transfer. The tips on Medigap and setting up a trust to qualify for Medicaid are also especially helpful, as these are options people might not know about.
Thanks again for sharing these insights, you're helping so many people navigate a complicated system with more confidence.

Hi everyone,
How are you all doing today?
Let’s dive into a challenging topic that many of us face: the high cost of treatments for chronic illnesses.
Dealing with a chronic illness is hard enough without the added stress of figuring out how to afford the necessary treatments. Some can be incredibly expensive, and not all of them are covered by insurance. So, let’s discuss where we draw the line.
How far should we go into debt to get the best care? Is it fair that access to certain treatments is limited by financial constraints? Have you had to make difficult decisions about paying for your care?
Let’s share our experiences and support each other through this complex issue.
