Yes, you do qualify. It's hard to get. You may have to try a few times but yes. I tried for the first time in 2020. I didn' t get it so I'm trying all over again. I heard it helps when you take an antipsychotic medication. Which I am.

Hi @Sugga§ and @XGraceX, thank you for opening and sharing your experience with us! Let me tag some other members who can possibly also share with you.
Hi everyone, how are you doing? Have you been through the process of applying for disability with your bipolar disorder? If so, what was the process like? How long did it take? Do you have any tips or advice on the process?

I’m back on disability. I tried to work earned too much and was taken off. I had an unsuccessful attempt at keeping a job due to bipolar. I applied again (started all over) in August. Received the letter that I was approved today and will get my first check in May.
First try both times!

I got a disability lawyer before I applied so he did the work. I was denied twice by mail then he applied again and I had to go to their court. My law firm sent a lawyer to go with me. He asked questions of me the court didn’t ask. After trial, he told me it would be 60-90 days for a decision. I got my approval letter in 6 days. Having the lawyer first really helped I think.

I had a law firm help me do it the first time. I was denied. So I'm trying to find another lawyer to hpelp me. I don't know what they are looking for. I look normal to them.
At the last time I dyid it8 I wasn't in depression or manic so the psychiatrist they sent me to said I acted normal.
So I have no idea how to get it.

Yes I went through it in 2016 when I had my nerves breakdown you get turn down at first but get a lawyer who doesn't get paid until you win your case you will get paid from the time you file your case good luck and be patient you'll get paid in the end and from that day forward hope this helped

Yes ,you can receive disability for being bipolar. My advice is when you finish filling out your application, make a copy of it, because you will get more forms in the mail asking you the same questions just worded differently. It was very frustrating to me, I felt like they were setting me up for failure by tricking me to say something different than I said before. If and when you get your 1st denial, that's when you get a good disability lawyer. It cost you a small percent of your back pay. If you are denied again then you owe the lawyer nothing. When I tell someone that I am disabled they look at me so strange and then reply "you don't look like anything is wrong with you" and I say well 20 days out of the month I would agree with you, it's the other 10, 11 days of the month, that I don't need to be around other people, that messes me up. Always remember not all disabilities can be seen. God bless- Misty

@Classycathy Absolutely! Try the cannabis pens. The come in Sativa (energetic high), Indica (a mellow and relaxing high) or blends. You can read on the box to see what the strain type is so you don’t grab the wrong one. I use Indica during my manic episodes. While it doesn’t completely rid me of the mania, but it definitely helps and gives me some relief. I believe you can buy them online. Our friends usually have them on hand so we get ours that way. Good luck!🍀

Does anyone know if we're eligible for disability with bipolar disorder? Both my manic and depressive episodes make it hard for me to hold down a regular job so I'm wondering if it's an option.
Has anyone gone through the process?
