I’m wondering the same thing after being on medication for it it was manageable but after 10 years my meds quit working so my doctor had to prescribe all new medications

Hi everyone, how are you today?
Have you noticed that your bipolar disorder has changed or evolved as you've aged? Has it worsened? Improved? How do you cope with this evolution?

In my experience mine has worsened with age. But I also have learned to counteract my extremes over the years. I get help faster and unapologetically put myself first before I go down the rabbit hole if all possible. I'm 38. My mother is 58 and is bipolar as well. Hers is worse with age as well. More extreme highs and extreme lows.

I was diagnosed as Mood Disorder otherwise unspecified. Then they labeled me Bipolar 2. From there Dr. Mullick called me Shizoaffective and then I get Bipolar 1. The doctors can't even decide what to label me. I have been doing without medication for about five years. I am rapid cycling with major mood swings. I get my housework done but I start a project and move to another until my whole house is tore up. Then I get back to this and then that. I can't focus on the TV at all as I have a LOT of programming but nothing interests me enough to watch the program to the end. I am obsessed with death. I have a picture of a girl with her wrists slit in a tub full of bloody water in the bathroom My kitchen art is a picture of a young girl in the cod fishing industry who is posing with a cod fish head she had chopped off. Her apron is bloody. A nice profession to get into, I think NOT. Murdering animals is not appealing to me however I have a tattoo of a cow's eye; the reflection in the eye is of the cows before him who are having their throats slit. The blood trickles down to the knee to the point the eye ends, then the blood gets really gory looking at my knee. I love the tattoo and will never regret getting it. I also know that I am a very unique person and do not believe that others are obsessed with death like I am. I tried to kill myself four times. Two years ago I was in the ICU for a week then another two weeks until they shipped me to another hospital's psych ward for thirteen days. I ditched the medication as soon as I hit the street again. I had been on all different psych drugs for fifteen years until I changed doctors. He was having me on two benzo's . Xanax, Restoril, and what the hell is Neurontin even? For epilepsy I think. Don't know, don't care, am not about to take it. I fill the scrips because I am on SSI disability for a mental disorder. I know I am not all there but the drugs that those doctors prescribed changed my personality and made me not give a damn about anything. I don't think that we are meant to live like robots that go through life not feeling anything but just zombified by drugs. I am having a very hard time and have reconsidered drugs often lately but then I remember the side effects and the noneffectiveness of those psych drugs. They are not for me but as I am getting older YES it is WORSE much worse. However, I will survive. I must survive as I now think we all have a predestined time to die. I can't even kill myself right. Hell Fire.

My uncle really struggled with his bipolar, but we always managed his depressive and manic episodes well. Since COVID started, something has changed. I don't know if it's a COVID thing or does bipolar worsen with age?
