I can honestly say that the majority of my support system, as little as it is, do not understands my experience with depression, they make comments like: "I chose to be happy and so should you", or "if she is going to be depressed I wish she would stay home because I don't want to catch it", or if you really believed in Jesus you wouldn't be depressed." I also get the following remark if I say I am not okay: "well what's wrong" in the tone that screams don't tell me, I really don't want to know. When I have been asked what they can do to help I have said one thing you can do is call and check on me, but that rarely happens, and one tells another that if I needed to talk I would have called them, I have stressed many, many times that I don't call because I feel like I am being a bother. I am still struggling with finding ways to help with understanding but the struggle is difficult and exhausting.

Hi everyone. And, thank u, Somya, for question. Do I feel understood by my healthcare team, depression-wise? Um, sort of. Recently, I've started seeing a prescriber, & even tho, he is several suburbs away, I think I may finally beginning to be understood. As an autistic, learned many psych meds do Not work same way with ppl like us. Perhaps something to do w how Weird our brains are wired. I have felt, for eons, my meds just don't help. And, I might be on the right track. Altho, I'm not any kind of healthcare professional, what I'm saying seems to work for me. Also, having an empathic therapist appears to have helped. I had rough memory on drive home from prescriber last time, mentioned to therapist & she & I will start working hard.
This may very well be the beginning of the end, in a positive way!!! Wish all well, & best of luck with your issues.

I don't really have a support system for my releasing anything. When I talk to my mother, she turns it around to her issues or whatever she makes up at that time. My sister well she has a newbie so I don't talk to her much. My brother, well he has work and family he deals with. And one friend that I do talk to. Well I'm a better listener for her. I'll start and midway she cuts me off. No I don't really believe she listens, but it helps me get it out. My dog Speedy is the only one that listens to me.

Hello everyone!
How are you doing today? 😊
Living with depression can feel isolating, and having a strong support system can make a world of difference. But sometimes, even our closest friends and family might not fully understand what we’re going through. Miscommunication or lack of awareness can make it hard to express our needs, leaving us feeling unheard.
Do you feel like your support system understands your experience with depression?
What’s been helpful in helping your loved ones understand what you need?
Are there resources or conversations that have improved your relationships during difficult times?
