Good for you! I’m happy for you. Some advice. You may or may not find the first counselor you see a good fit. And that’s ok. If not, just ask the receptionist up front to assign you another one. They won’t be hurt. It’s all part of the process. You want to feel comfortable with them to get the most benefit. I usually know within the first few weeks to a month if we are going to be a good match. Sometimes you have to go through a few to find the right one. Try not to get frustrated and don’t give up! Once you find the right one, it can be such a great experience. Once I found the right one, we were together for years and she helped me immensely!! Also, open as much as you feel comfortable. Just remember what you say is confidential and they are there to help you. They aren’t going to judge you. So the more you open up, the more than can help you feel better. Good luck friend. I wish you the very best!

Thanks Krissy:
I appreciate the heads up about trying different counselors, this is my first run through, I was really worried I'd end up with some apathetic prat and be stuck with them lol.

. I've had depression since I was at least 12yrs old, that I know of, I am now 49. This has always been my private battle as I have a support network of literally 0 people. I am finally in a position where I have some insurance to pay for getting profrssional help, something I've never been able to remotly consider before. At least that is assuming the new doctor I am going to see will give me a referral for mental health counseling. Frankly I'm terrified. I have no idea what to expect, how much do I tell them, will they take it seriously, will it do any good? All this is going through my head at once. Any advice?
