I am very fortunate, my brother is in pharmaceutical sales and sent me the information on a treatment that he thought would work to calm my MS. I approached my neurologist with the information, and was his first patient that this infusion was administered to.

I ask questions and I ask them to explain things to me in ways that I can listen. I always take my glucose log with me to my appointments. They are pleased that I have lost weight.

Omg how many times I've had to return to the office to get them to do what they said they would do. I almost landed in the emergency room because of an uncaring unprofessional PA. I was in full blown aspiration. My lungs were full everyone knows how scary that is. She confirmed and prescribed the usual steroids and antibiotics. It took 4 calls 2 in person visits and 17 days before she finally put the script thru. By then I had gone to tractor supply and bought Calf Scout which is oxytetracycline. I document every call date and time and who I spoke with. The trips to the office and my trip to tractor supply.
The doctor was upset to hear what I was telling him happened. But he knows me and is familiar with my OCD. So when I pulled it out with all that happened he knew I wasn't exaggerating or being fussy.
I am like a dog with a bone now. Keep everything question everything.

Hello everyone,
How are you doing today?
We listen to our our doctors' diagnosis and treatment recommendations, after all, they have over a decade of schooling and it is their profession. However, who knows your body better than you? Sometimes you have to fight for more tests, second opinions, or different medication.
How do you stand up for yourself and your body against physicians and care providers? How did you do it? Did you keep your doctor or find new?
Patient advocacy is important. Share your stories about when you stood up for yourself.
Take care,
Lizzi from the Carenity team
