Hello everyone, how are you doing?
Radiation therapy for prostate cancer has come a long way, and for some men, treatment can now be completed in just 5 sessions instead of the traditional 20 or more. This approach, called stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT), delivers highly targeted radiation to the tumor while minimizing exposure to surrounding tissues.
A recent study found that SBRT is just as effective as longer radiation schedules for men with intermediate-risk prostate cancer. Some men did experience more urinary side effects early on, but these issues typically improved within a couple of years. SBRT can also be more convenient and reduce treatment costs. However, it may not be suitable for everyone, especially those with larger prostate glands or pre-existing urinary issues.
👉 Have you undergone SBRT for prostate cancer? What was your experience like?
👉 Did you experience any side effects, and how did you manage them?
👉 If you had the choice, would you opt for SBRT again, or would you prefer a longer radiation schedule?
