Prostate cancer has impacted my father's mental health. Ever since his diagnosis he has become more introverted and allowing himself to become depressed worry about the prognosis, treatments, and financial responsibility. His mental health status from this (he never had a great strong mental health, but was never like this) pushed him over the edge... I feel like his mental health is impacting his relationship, work life, and personal life more than than the actual prostate cancer.. anyone have any suggestions?

I have found PCa to be very challenging. The emotional rollercoaster has been a rough one for me too. So far I have been able to cope simply by talking to people, especially those going through the same thing as me. Have you searched to see if there is a PCa support group in your area? I have also found prostate cancer.net a great place to find support and information.
I find PCa more debilitating mentally. It’s true the physical aspects can be difficult as well, but it compares nowhere close to the mental aspect. I can relate to what your father is going through.

Talking to other people is a great help, you don't feel as though you are the only one who is going thru it. . Getting some sort of exercise is a big help, walking, light weights etc. Most of all try and think of positive things in your life. I did 40 days in the hyperbaric chamber for radiation help and a year and a half later the nurses from the wound center still call and ask how I am, very up lifting

I am happy that I have chronic fatigue. If this continues I expect to die peacefully in my sleep without being abused through my genitals by misandristic, sadistic racist females. In spite of the urologists who want to please their female medical assistants by turning my genitals over to them to abuse me as they wish. I look forward to dying peacefully without being humiliated, abused and tortured. .This is why I seek no so-called medical "care" from these so-called medical personnel.

Why can men not receive professional medical attention? We don't need our private genitals given over to females to abuse us as hey please.

I'm currently in remission, but when I was diagnosed I asked a lot of questions and did tons of research. I felt like the more I know, the more I know what to expect and that gave me some peace of mind. I also do yoga and meditation to handle stressful thoughts. The sexual dysfunction that I experienced, well I was prepared for it, but it still hurt not being able to be "ready" the way I was before with my partner. Eventually, it came back, but it's never been quite the same.

@yankeepoodle89 Hi, what did you do - operation or radiation? How old are you? I had PSA 6 in August, Gleason score 7. I don't know whether to do surgery or radiation. I am 68. @yankeepoodle89 @yankeepoodle89

I am 77 and had the radiation 2 years ago. If you choose the radiation take the lower dose 30 day procedure. I did the 5 day heavy dose and still have some problems

It looks like this discussion is from a bit ago, so I hope it's ok that I'm commenting. I've just been diagnosed and I'm obviously reeling, trying to "process" it. To be honest, I'm scared. I don't know what's going to happen next yet and I'm afraid what this and any treatment is going to do to me physically and also mentally.

PTaylor16, I shared your fear and anxiety, but believe me if you have proper treatment, you will have hope. Get rid of your urologist and trust your oncologist.

Hello everyone,
When people talk about cancer, it is generally focused around the physical aspect of cancer; however, there is much more that cancer affects than a person's physical well-being.
With prostate cancer, it can impact a man's libido, penis size, penis function, appetite, skin, and much more. With all of the symptoms of prostate cancer and adverse impacts it can have on a man's health, a man's mental health is often affected, as well as even overlooked or not addressed.
This discussion is where men and caregivers can come and discuss how prostate cancer has affected your mental health: do you suffer from depression or anxiety, in what ways has prostate cancer affected your mental health, does it bother your sleep? how do you cope or take care of your mental health? Do you feel this condition has led to Post Traumatic Stress Disorder?
Discuss and conversate with others and share your story and experiences.
