In 2023, Carenity partnered with Sanofi to conduct a multi-country survey exploring the impact of Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) on families. This study gathered insights from 1,200 parents across the US, UK, Spain, and Italy to understand the emotional, social, and economic burdens of RSV—not just on infants, but also on their caregivers.

In collaboration with Sanofi, Carenity conducted a multi-country survey in 2023 to explore the emotional, social, and economic effects of Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) on infants and their families. By collecting insights from 1,200 parents across the US, UK, Spain, and Italy, the study uncovers the far-reaching impact of RSV on family life.
Key findings include:
- Increased Wheezing Risk: RSV-infected children under 2 faced a 4.5x higher risk of wheezing, with even greater risks for those hospitalized or in intensive care.
- Parental Emotional Burden: 57% of parents reported moderate to severe emotional impacts, affecting daily activities and social life.
- Disrupted Well-Being for Children: Wheezing from RSV disrupted sleep, emotional well-being, and physical activities for many children.
- Limited Awareness: Almost half of the parents surveyed (47%) were unaware of RSV before their child’s diagnosis.
- Healthcare Challenges: RSV-related wheezing led to increased healthcare utilization and significant costs for families.
