Hello, I have a similar type of device implanted. But mine was for a different reason. I have the CRT-D. Which has three types of help for me. I have not been shocked as of yet. I’ve come to terms with the device. After the implantation the will probably be some weight lifting limitations but as you heal from it you may even forget it is inside of you.

Thank you for starting this discussion today! Living with an Implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) can seem like a huge change, yet the people I know, who live with it, are ok. It is something you should always be aware of, but it can be a huge help in your life, therefore I think talking to other patients and learning more about it can help you get used to the idea of it. i just have a straight pacemaker not the one with the defibrillator

in regards to today I feel pretty good

My brother had an ICD for a while now. Having it is generally fine day-to-day. It's there mostly as a backup in case of serious arrhythmias. There are some restrictions, like avoiding strong magnets and certain activities that could potentially interfere with it. But overall, he says it's been reassuring knowing it's there if needed.

I have had an ICD since early 2008. In fact, I currently on my 3rd device. My Sleep Apnea was discovered/diagnosed in 2008 as well so I my only experience is WITH an ICD. So far I have been able to manage my Apnea with CPAP. One frustration is the inconsistency in CPAP therapy results from day to day. Not sure what is causing the variation - - perhaps it is my allergies which have been particularly bad this season.

I have had a ICD for almost 15 years. It has kept me alive all that time and when I saw my cardiologist in July he said my device is working and my heart is stable.
