Hi @justme123
How are you doing today?
This is a very interesting discussion topic. I think with all exercises, the more you do them, the better you get. But let me tag a few members who may have some more detailed experiences that relates to this topic.

Do you regularly do breathing exercises? Do they seem to increase you lung capacity? Do you find your emphysema is better?
Take care,

I was diagnosed with emphysema about eight years ago. My pulmonologist prescribed breathing exercises and I also came up with some of my own that he now also prescribes to other patients. They have helped greatly as, according to him, I should have been on home oxygen by now, lugging around a tank of some sort, but the exercises have kept me from that. So, absolutely yes - breathing exercises have helped greatly.

Can we be prescribed anything for the anxiety caused by shortness of breath (dyspnea)?

In order to deal with any anxiety during sob episodes, I try to focus on an object while concentrating on deep breathing exercises until it's under control. Works well for me. I'm a firm believer in no more meds than absolutely necessary.

Has anyone seen a difference in your breathing after doing breathing exercises? I really would like to improve my capacity, but I struggle to 'stick with' exercises over a long period of time. I usually start really motivated but after a few days I lose interest. But if someone had experiences with the breath exercises actually helping, then I think I would be more motivated.
Thank you
