I do not really discuss my diagnosis with people, but if people ask I tell them emphysema... The doctors refer to it as emphysema with me.

My doctor refers to it as emphysema, but when I first received my diagnosis I was told it was just COPD without any more explanation regarding emphysema... maybe this was just unique to me.
I don't talk about my condition often, but I feel it is quite noticeable.

@emphman I say I have one of the two forms of COPD, emphysema, the other being bronchitis, because I was stupid and smoked for 61 years.

Can we be prescribed anything for the anxiety caused by shortness of breath (dyspnea)?

In order to deal with any anxiety during sob episodes, I try to focus on an object while concentrating on deep breathing exercises until it's under control. Works well for me. I'm a firm believer in no more meds than absolutely necessary.

Just a random question for all of my emphysema friends, do you tell others that you are diagnosed with emphysema or do you settle for telling them COPD?
I find myself more commonly telling people COPD, but I do not know why.
