I have been retired from work since I moved to Sequim 18 years ago by my neurologist. I did try a part-time job working at Costco as a demonstrator but was only able to keep that up for about 2 years before my legs told me no way no more. I do miss working because I was raised with a very strong work ethic. And now I feel like I'm letting everyone down by not being able to work.

A year after I retired as a real estate broker, I needed some reason to get up in the morning and volunteered for the local food pantry. After 11 years of this volunteering my deteriorating emphysema forced me to retire again, and while I still live independently at home, I require 'angels' to pick up food and medications for me. Prognosis is poor.

Hello,
Hope you are all doing good.
I think this discussion can go up, so that new members who've just recently joined, could join in and share their experience.
Take care!

@Courtney_J I suffered my fourth seizure on September 22, 2023. Because I couldn't drive for six months the company I worked for let me go. I tried to explain the situation but the let me go.

Hello everyone,
How are you today?
Being diagnosed with a chronic illness can change a person’s life. Unlike a temporary illness such as a cold or the flu, chronic illness may never go away and can disrupt a patient’s life in many ways, encroaching on their daily life, routines, and career.
Following our new article on the subject (Working with a chronic illness: Carenity members share their experience!), I thought we could open a discussion on the topic to discuss together!
What do you think of the article? Does it reflect your experience? Has your illness had an impact on your professional life? How so? Can you share any advice?
Feel free to share and discussion here!
Take care,
Courtney
