No I’m the first, 22 years of welding, last 5 hit me very hard Isocyanate in Carl paint on military trailers, occupational asthma, doctors have me on a constant roller coaster trying to say I have COPD, no, I don’t, I am tired of dealing with the medical profession!!!! My pulmonologist who diagnosed me was killed in a plane crash tow years ago, these other quacks just don’t get it, they want to re-write the book after it was already published, I have been on disability now for 4 years in part, for my condition, I’m managing it now but it’s a constant battle trying to get these doctors to understand, I guess no one reads medical records anymore

@Courtney_J It runs in my family in my case. My mom and uncles on her side were all asthmatics. I'm not sure if it's been proven, but I think I remember reading somewhere once that asthma runs through the maternal side. Has anyone else noticed it running through their mom's side if it runs in your family?

It definitely runs in my family, my sister's and their children all suffer from asthma. My nieces and nephews were asthmatic as children. I am not sure how they are coping as adults but I hope they are well.

Hello everyone,
How are you today? Have you seen this older discussion? 😊
While the direct causes behind asthma are not fully understood, researchers have found that asthma can be caused by both hereditary and environmental factors.
What about you? Does asthma run in your family? Or were you the first to be diagnosed with it? Do you know what causes are behind your asthma?

knsasmyhme, Other than my mom's dad having it,who I never got to meet because he passed away when she was 18, I was the only other person that I know of that has asthma. I have the severe persistent asthma, which is the very most life threatening, and most dangerous asthma of any other type of severe asthma anyone could have. I see an allergist for my asthma and allergies that is board certified to do patients like me that has the most life threatening and dangerous asthma. I have nearly lost my life due to my asthma and I have been in and out of ER'S so many times All of my other rescue inhalers and inhaled corticosteroids I have ever been on were never helping. I was sick for 5 months and nobody else other than my allergist would ever do anything, I kept getting the run around saying there's nothing I can do for you. I was in and out of ER'S multiple times, My allergist referred me to a Cardiologist, thinking it was a possibility it was heart related so I had a echo done and the results came back normal so last month, he asked me if I have ever tried Airsupra, which is a brand new rescue inhaler that just came out this year and I said no and he said, well, we're going to try that, plus Breztri 2 puffs 2 daily and that's all it took and now I have been feeling excellent for a month now except 1 have been having a hard time breathing still because of the humidity and last month when I saw him he told the receptionist I want to see her in a month and even if I am really booked, you squeeze her in with me anyway, and when I saw him Thursday 5/16/2024 he asked how I was feeling I told him asthma wise a lot better and he's like, excellent! I told him I think the Airsupra and Breztri is what it took. I told him the other way I'm feeling, not any better. He said you're still struggling that way huh? I said yes and he asked what's going on so we talked and then after we talked he listened to my lungs and said your lungs finally, sound very clear today. I was like, awesome. My allergist will listen to me no matter the situation. He is the best allergist that has ever dealt with my severe persistent asthma and allergies. When I'm not feeling well, when it comes to my asthma, he does everything he can to get me to feeling better. He is always the one that who can get me to feeling better when it comes to my asthma, where nobody else has ever been able to. They were never able to keep my asthma well controlled, he can. He's the best! I know I wouldn't want any other allergist, other than him. I feel comfortable talking to him about anything cuz like I said earlier in my comment, he listens to me, no matter the situation.

Hi everyone.
I was the first person in my immediate family to have asthma. Is anyone else the first in their family?
I think the good thing - but not really good - about having someone in your family that has had asthma, is that they can kind of give you pointers and tips to help you. For us who are the first in the family - all the learning is on us.
