I was diagnosed with BP when I was 26, I am now 50. I have always been horrible with my finances. I worked off and on for YEARS. I would get a job and eventually I would lose it, whether it was because I would walk our mad and quit or fired for my attendance because some days I just couldn't make myself go. My mom finally made me apply for disability in my late 30s. She got tired of paying my bills, when I couldn't come up with the money to pay them. So, now I am on a monthly fixed income. I can NEVER seem to make my check last the entire month, because of my impulsive buying . Whether, I am up or down, I LOVE buying my g babies "PRIZES ." Not because they need or deserve a "prize ", but because I ABSOLUTELY love the smiles on their little faces and get to hear that "I am the best esthetic mamaw in the whole wide world. It is the instant gratification that I am addicted to. My bad habit is not good for my g babies either, they don't appreciate or take care of their "prizes". Needless to say I have created little monsters, when mamaw shows up empty handed. I quickly become the worst mamaw in the world. I know that I could appoint someone to be over my check, but I have big trust issues that fall into play real quick. I would love to hear some advice on how other BP people deal with similar problems. Thanks and God Bless-Misty

@Classycathy Absolutely! Try the cannabis pens. The come in Sativa (energetic high), Indica (a mellow and relaxing high) or blends. You can read on the box to see what the strain type is so you don’t grab the wrong one. I use Indica during my manic episodes. While it doesn’t completely rid me of the mania, but it definitely helps and gives me some relief. I believe you can buy them online. Our friends usually have them on hand so we get ours that way. Good luck!🍀

Hello everyone,
How are you doing?
Managing finances can be a challenge for anyone, but when living with bipolar disorder, it can feel especially difficult. Mood swings, impulsivity during manic episodes, or lack of motivation during depressive episodes can affect how we handle money. Some might struggle with overspending, while others find it hard to stick to a budget. 💸
For many people with bipolar disorder, finding a financial routine or strategy that works is crucial for maintaining stability. Whether it's setting up automatic payments, using financial apps to track expenses, or leaning on trusted friends or family for support, there are ways to manage money even when things feel out of control.
What tips or strategies have you found helpful in managing your finances while living with bipolar disorder? Do you struggle with impulsive spending during manic phases, or find it difficult to plan during depressive periods?
