@AlyceMarie what study are you referencing? Can you link to these studies?

My oncologist is very against fasting. It also seems so hard on patients to go 4 days out of 7 without nutrition while dealing with chemo seems wrong. I'm torn....

Research is still based on animal studies mostly, but basically the concept that starvation prior to chemotherapy causes the body to go into protective mode, but the cancer cells since they are not functioning as normal cells do not go into protective mode and thus the chemotherapy treatment is better able to target the cancer cells and not damage the health cells. There are research studies out there on these topics. It seems very promising, but it has not gained full traction since the research in humans are still in the preliminary stages and any doctor is likely hesistant to tell a patient to not eat.

@1984survivor! I don’t think this s a good idea you need to build your body up for chemo and fasting is the opposite. I did 6 months chemo after my whipple surgery ad chemo can make you very weak and you can drop a lot of wieght from it. I would not t suggest this because you need the hydration.

What kind of fasting are they referring to? No food or drinks at all for 48hrs before and after chemo seems like a recipe for dehydration, no??

@ima164 If it works, a little hydration won't bother me :) It seems to be from what I am reading here to only be 3 days thought, not 4. I would be interested in reading more about this.

I've been hearing alot about this and reading reports on it and wanted to no what any of you think about this new "research/study?
It's my understanding that if a cancer patient doesn't eat 48 hrs before and 24 he's after Chemo treatment that it's shown to kill out cancer cells completely in some studies. Even in mice the Chemo worked twice as well than if patient ate reg meals. It has something to do with not feeding human cells good and bad with nutrients that causes affected cells to litterly starve and die once chemo is added. I'm not educated on any of this very well as you can tell but I'm getting ready to start Chemo in couple of weeks so if I can find a way to poison my cancer cells a more effective way I'm sure gonna try it. Does anyone no anything about this or has anyone possibly tried this?
