Hi @EdithG1980, thank you for opening this discussion and sharing what you've been going through! It can be really overwhelming to make all the diet and lifestyle changes doctors recommend to treat or prevent diabetes since often there isn't much education or guidance provided.
Have you brought up your symptoms with your doctor? Did he have any thoughts on it?
Can anyone else share what kinds of symptoms you experienced before you were diagnosed? Did you experience any of what @EdithG1980 describes?

@EdithG1980 Hello, I have been diabetic for 10 years or more. I didn't want to believe I was diabetic. I wouldn't follow the diet. I continued my daily visit to the vending machine. I did this for 3-4 months. Well guess what. I got caught on my birthday. After eating a huge piece of cake and a couple of scoops of ice cream. I collapsed. I had to go get in the bed and yes I was home alone. I told my doctor why was I falling out? Now, I'm scared to go any where I don't know what caused it. She said I should know. She was a little miffed that I didn't listen to her and I could have ended up dead. Enough of a wake up call for me. Am I perfect I still have cake on my birthday just not so large and Nooooo ice cream.

My paternal grandmother was a type 2 diabetic as well as her son, my father, so I was aware of the symptoms. My understanding is that diabetes can be triggered by a traumatic event. One week when I was 45, I had strep throat and the flu simultaneously. That pretty much knocked me for a loop as you can imagine. I was playing racquetball every day and when I went back to playing, I had to stop after almost every play to get a drink and had cotton mouth. I knew those were symptoms of idabetes but I assumed it was due to my illness. When I went back to work after my games, they were having a health screening near my office and one of the things they were testing was blood sugar. It was so high that they figured there was some error. So they did it again - same result. As I recall the reading was around 600. This was before we had machines to read your blood sugar. I made an appointment to see an internist the next day. I had no symptoms before my two illnesses. I figure that I detected the problem early, before the disease did much damage to my visceral organs.

Hello All, I am new here. I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes in 2019. My primary said he wanted to try and get it reversed with diet and exercise. And being the super compliant(sarcasm) patient I am went on with my life not paying attention and continuing to eat the way I had been eating. Fast forward to this year I am still diabetic(obviously since I had made no effort). However, I started about a month ago experiencing this severe Tinnitus(it has gotten better), along with tremors, and my vision flickers like when you have a bad installed light. Obviously now I am buckling down and I am taking my health seriously. Has anyone experienced these kinds of symptoms? Thanks!
