I experience labored breathing daily. I cope with shortness of breath symptoms constantly. I cope by using medication and Cpap and nebulizer as well as “mind over matter “ mentality. Life is tough but I am a Survivor!

@Breathmaster hi me again. My name is Ruby. I am amazed at how you cope. Some days I feel very hopeless. Today is not so bad. My shrink prescribed a sleep aid and it changed my COPD symptoms? Any ideas about that.
More importantly how are you doing? Not asking to be polite. Would love to hear from you good or bad. I'm a Christian so my prayers are with you.

@Rgallagher anxiety or just plain old worrying can be contributing factors to any illness or disease. If I need a sleep aid I can use dipenhydramine hydrocloride or a soft hammer to my head. My religion is knowledge and I do accept everyone’s beliefs. My COPD is called “My Life”. My first hospitalization occurred when I was a old baby of 10 months. I was thought to not live very long. I am a survivor!!! The only reason that I struggle with being here is because I was a coward. I used to be afraid of death up until I grew up at 7. I have had a long and exhausting life but I love being human.

Can we be prescribed anything for the anxiety caused by shortness of breath (dyspnea)?

In order to deal with any anxiety during sob episodes, I try to focus on an object while concentrating on deep breathing exercises until it's under control. Works well for me. I'm a firm believer in no more meds than absolutely necessary.
