@Almostcured Is your comment about don’t waste your money referring to CBD oil? It has been like a miracle for me, but I caution folks that there is a flood of products on the market that don’t have the purity claimed. Look for a product that is labeled pure hemp oil, and has third party purity testing regularly. The product I use can be bought online . Hempworks 500, peppermint. I receive nothing for promoting this product, FYI.

Without a doubt Botox is the most beneficial for my spasticity. You have to find the right dose and put in the work with rehab to get benefits though.
im also trialling a medication off label with my neurologist called lamactal. Apparently It is thought to suppress the activity of certain parts of the brain and the abnormal firing of nerve cells.Also inhibiting release of certain neurotransmitters in the nervous system. This includes both the central nervous system and peripheral nervous system (including the involuntary autonomic nervous system.) It’s worked well for me so far as I’ve been able to “talk” to my muscles easier and lessen the rigidity of my spasticity.
apart from these I found strength training with mirroring actions (like the pin loaded machines at the gym) gave me more control helping to extend out of the continually flexed position.
Also dry needling has helped me. Plus stretching of course.

@brian21 Hi Brian,
Can you tell me more about your botox treatments, please? How did you find the right dose? Is it coverage by your insurance? Thanks!

@MS_283 I recently tried botox for the first time. As far as dosage, since they come in 100 unit doses, my physiatrist suggested 40 in one muscle, 40 in one ( the muscles that flex the hand, because my trouble has been with having a “claw”) and 20 in the muscle that works the thumb. I have a noticeable relaxing of the hand, although it doesn’t really flex. I am able to grasp most items with my right hand and I couldn’t before. I know I won’t shut up about CBD oil, but I’m on month 6 of taking oil under my tongue twice per day and I went to physical therapy for the first time in a month this week and my therapist commented several times on the amount of control I have in my leg-I think it’s having a slow but steady effect- just as my severe spasticity worsened slowly, slowly for three years. Looking back I know when things were getting harder, but now I know it was the spasticity increasing. I feel kind of annoyed that my therapists didn’t recognize what was happening immediately. For example, I’ve been in speech therapy, and it has helped, but no one pinpointed the cause of my speech problems to ongoing tightening of muscles in my jaw. It took the CBD oil to loosen those muscles, which in turn helped my speech, for me ( or anyone ) to make the connection. Perhaps they knew but didn’t know what to do about it. I would have liked more transparency. Back to the Botox, I have a second round of injections scheduled in March. This time I will try some in my upper arm/shoulder and repeat the dose in my lower arm.

I am participating in a clinical trial that includes 10-15 minutes of stretching daily. It has helped, I think. I also do 30 minutes 2x weekly, high intensity strength training with a one on one trainer. It definitely helps with range of motion and strength in my core and legs helps prevent falls.
