@yelenaor hello, How are you?
What medications have you been on before for your AS? Did you try other blockers or just NSAIDS for the pain and stiffness?
Humira seems to do a very good job a STOPPOING the SOURCE of inflammation, so you should notice an increase in mobility and decrease in pain. With biologics you must take your immune system into account, because it will decrease your immune system... I say stock up on Vit C (bulk supplements has good prices). Also, some people get headaches for Humira.
I know a long time ago (10 years plus) people were taking Humira (or other biologic + methotrexate), but I think the methotrexate combo went out of stye bc they found methotrexate research does not show any true benefit for AS.

@yelenaor hello,
Did you already start humira? If so, how are you doing thus far?
My mother also takes biologics, but for RA, and it does seem to lower the immune system. She takes vitamins, including extra Vitamin C, and trys to get enough rest... when she does fall asleep, she is knocked out...it takes a train to wake her up (lol... she can sleep through anything now) not sure if that is a side-effect of the biologic, however.
But she also feels a lot better now on it.

Hi. I haven't started yet. It's sitting in the fridge until I make a decision . A lot of rest probably isn't in my future with a full time job and grad school.
Thank you for your input!

I began Humira, I thought I had a pretty high pain tolerance and fatty stomach tissue but this took the cake. I lost about 15 pounds on Humira and experienced several side effects, but every biological takes effect differently with every person. Take lots of vitamins and lots of sleep!!!

@yelenaor @Joanna07 are you saying you experienced increase pain with Humira? I never experienced that... I don't think, I was always in pain.
But yes, vitamins and sleep! Emphasizing Vitamin C.

I took my first shot yesterday! I was so nervous, I almost passed out, but there was zero pain. Yeah! I didn't feel well all day though. Definitely feeling better today

I am glad to hear you are feeling better @yelenaor and did not have pain. Have you been dosing Vitamin C and getting rest?

I am in the severe range now at 74 yrs old. I have found thru trial and error and getting older with SA, I sleep on my back because I can hardly turn to my side now. I also take 10 mg Melatonin. I didn't know it came in 20 mg! (Thanks ladyslipper 67) What has really help with my back pain, when in bed, is a large memory foam wedge. The large end is under my knees and my legs go down to the small end. It doesn't move when I sleep but then again I am not turning over back and forth. This takes the pressure off my back. I hope this helps someone.

I am pretty scared due to the array of side effects. What are your thoughts?
