@Birdsrhea Hello Birdsrhea, thank you for opening this discussion. Let me tag some other members who be able to share their experiences with these medications.
Hi everyone, how are you today? Have any of you been prescribed Lamictal (lamotrigine) or Remeron (mirtazapine) for your bipolar disorder? Have they been effective? Did you have any side effects?

Lamictal worked pretty well for me. I gained weight on it . I underwent a gastric sleeve and changed to Laura. I'm able to lose weight now.

I am just being weaned off of Lamictal I was 300 after 5 years, I suffered a Bipolar / Manic event that I am still dealing with. My Doctor is in the process of adjusting and changing alot of my bipolar meds now she said they needed to be adjusted since I am Also turning 60 and some of my medications will not be handled with the changes in my body.

I take mirtazapine for sleep but it doesn't seem to work all that well anymore. I have tried trazadone but I don't like how it makes me feel the next day. I felt groggy from it and then I had to drink a lot of coffee to feel awake enough to function.

@Birdsrhea I have been on Lamictil for about 8 months. During the first few months, the Lamictil made me dizzy, sick to my stomach, and got HORRIBLE blurry and double vision. I could hardly walk without the assistance of my husband and I actually fell down really hard twice and was unable to get up. Luckily my husband was home with me and came to my rescue. These side effects would last for 2-3 days and then disappear. I would be fine for a few weeks and then would randomly get those same side effects again. This went on for about 3 months. Just as quickly as they started, they disappeared. I’ve not had any of those side effects or any other new side effects in about 5 months. My body finally adjusted to the medication.
I hope this helps!

I believe that Lamictal saved my life. When finally diagnosed as Bipolar this drug gave me the lifesaving sleep that I desperately needed. I have never had any noticeable side effects. I take 200mg in the morning.

@Classycathy Absolutely! Try the cannabis pens. The come in Sativa (energetic high), Indica (a mellow and relaxing high) or blends. You can read on the box to see what the strain type is so you don’t grab the wrong one. I use Indica during my manic episodes. While it doesn’t completely rid me of the mania, but it definitely helps and gives me some relief. I believe you can buy them online. Our friends usually have them on hand so we get ours that way. Good luck!🍀

I'm new to using Lamactil and Remeron I wanted to know if anyone else takes these meds and how it works for you? My meds were changed I was taking 1050 mg of oxcarbezepine and it depleted sodiums levels and took trazadone but meds were changed to Lamactil and Remeron does anyone have trouble breathing on it?
