Did you discover your cancer "by chance"

Yes. I discovered my uterine cancer, fortunately curable. I had unexplained bleeding. Got in to see my doctor who referred me to the appropriate medical doctors who biopsied and then did surgery. If we stay tuned to our bodies, many things can be identified early. My surgery was in 2004. Now, 20 years cured.

I was on a golf trip with my buddies. On the way home my back started to stiffen up on me. I thought it was just front all the golf I'd played. I tried everything I could think of for a couple days and it didn't improve. Since it was quite painful I decided to see my Dr. He did x-rays. This revealed compressed discs. It also revealed a spot on my left kidney. He recommended I see my Urologist because I had a history of kidneys stones. So, thinking I had another kidney stone. I made an appt with the Urologist. He scheduled scans and when I met with him, I was shocked he informed me I had a tumor that was most likely MALIGNANT. He provided several options, when I asked which one he recommended, he felt it was best to remove the kidney. I was completely blindsided by the whole thing. Had I not gone in to get my back checked I wouldn't have known about the tumor. I had the kidney removed, the biopsy did confirm it was MALIGNANT, but there was no need for further Cancer treatments and I was Cancer Free for the next 3 years.

Mine was by chance. I have copd and went into hospital due to fluid overload and it was spotted on routine CT.

My cancer was discovered by chance. I had a routine check up with my doctor and because of my age 70 and the fact I was a long term smoker she suggested that I have a CT scan .I was not feeling bad no cough no strange pains so I had the CT it showed a liason that was good sized ,soi went for a pet scan it showed a tumor and one lynphnode that was hot so I had a bronchosopy and it showed stage 3 b sqamus cell lung cancer. I start my chemo and radiation therapy tomorrow plus I am participating in a clinical trial of targeted radiation therapy on top of regular radiation therapy.

Mine was discovered when I had a seizure. Never had seizures before. My husband called 911 because I was seizing. They took me to the hospital and did a CT scan and discovered a tumor in my brain. If it wasn't for the seizure we wouldn't of known

My fiance had been having severe constipation, and I suggested he get a colonoscopy, especially since he was just about the age they recommend us start having them. So off we went, he went in for the procedure, and the nurse came out and asked me to come back to recovery with him. We were both pretty relaxed, making jokes, then the Dr that had performed the procedure came in. Said he'd never seen so many polyps, especially in someone so young (he's 46). Learned he had FAP. Stage 4 colorectal. We're smack dab in the middle of chemo now. And just think... He only agreed to the colonoscopy to placate me. Thank God he did.

My hematologist found mine. She was trying to determine why my platelet count was so low. Mind I was hospitalized 2x due to nausea vomiting and severe pain. After each admission I was discharged with diagnosis of gastritis. It piss me off that later it was determined to be cancer

That's quite a story, and honestly, it's not as rare as you might think. I've heard a few similar stories where routine or unrelated check-ups bring to light something totally unexpected like that. A friend of mine actually found out he had early-stage thyroid cancer during a dental X-ray. They noticed some abnormal swelling, suggested he see his GP, and bam, there it was.

I've had pancreatitis off and on for over 10 years now, My pain kept getting worse no matter how many different food options I tried. My Dr sent me for an MRI and they found a neuroendacrine tumor in the tail of my pancreas that was about 4 cm in size. Had to have the tail of the pancreas, spleen and about 30 lymph nodes removed. Unfortunately, the cancer that was left is untreatable and has spread to my liver.
