My situation may be different from most... I have non-allergic asthma, but allergens do make breathing more difficult and can cause flare-ups if I do not appropriately prepare; however, I have it, for the most part, under control.
I have modified my life understanding the things that I can do without flaring up and causing difficulty breathing, the things I can do but must be cautious, and the things that I most certainly cannot.
Having asthma was very frustrated early-on, but I have come to grasp with it and have decided I am going to live the most healthy life I can despite it. I exercise 5 days a week; take my inhaler with me everywhere; and most certainly tried to avoid stressful situations, relationships, etc.
It has its negative aspects, but I feel there are other diagnosed with asthma that are much worse off than me and there are others with other conditions that are much worse off than me.
Therefore, I am grateful for the life I have and the ability to control what I can.

None of my doctor said that are answered this question but my asthma is pretty severe and I wanted to know if anyone else feels like their diaphragm is always tight and pulled up into her chest making breathing even more difficult?
Unregistered member
Techchick yes!! I did find out later I have a hiatia hernia, and I think that is my problem. I also have lung cancer but I am in remission. I have complained of pain in my diaphragm for a long time.

@Techchick I feel like my ribs are up into my upper chest/neck area and it hurts to take deep breaths.

I think you really should let your doctor know. I went through some of that last winter due to severe cold temps. I have to keep face covered when really cold. I am kind of new at this asthma thing but I know that rib pain very well.

I’ve had a hiatal hernia for a long time but I never had this pain. I have told my doctors about it repeatedly, in fact I’ve told every doctor I see about it and nobody seems to listen or care.

I have several health issues and adding Asthma on top of it has made it very difficult to get consistent relief as several of my health issues can have the same symptoms . Doctors have to figure out which issue is causing the symptoms (I think all) Pulmonologist wants to blame my heart issues , Cardiologist wants to blame pulmonary issues. Within the past month the cardiologist stated that all my health issues are aggravating my overall health. Overall I have allergy induced Asthma. Allergic to most trees all grasses and dust. Being too Hot or too Cold also aggravates my symptoms. I was taking xolair injections every two weeks which I will have to go back on again. I am limited to what I take because of other health issues and the medicines that I take. One day we will get there.

@BeachLife18 I have lots of health concerns as well but my worst I have is my severe persistent asthma which is the most life threatening and dangerous type of severe asthma anyone could ever have and I am on a brand new rescue inhaler that just came out this year called Airsupra. I see an allergist that is board certified to treat patients like me with the most life threatening and dangerous asthma and he had me diagnosed in a different town where I used to live and I was diagnosed with severe allergic persistent asthma but when I moved up here where I live, moved up here a year ago and I was recently sick for 5 months and it took my allergist to find out what was going on and I used to be on xolair, that didn't help so then went to Tezpire that wasn't helping much anymore and he got to thinking it was more severe eosinophilic persistent asthma so he had me retested and come to find out it's is severe eosinophilic persistent asthma so he put me on Fasenra and is it helping me tremendously. I do the injections here at home. For the first 3 weeks you do injections every 4 weeks then after that every 8 weeks
