@melissa8305 I feel you when you speak about your family. Whenever I become depressed to where it consumes me ,I reach out to my family. They hardly have any feedback. They may suggest I go to a therapist but they never seem to dig for info. Like asks questions. Ask me what I'm going through. Sometimes I feel my family shout be my therapist. They should be my person to vent to. But I guess it's like I've heard some say. Those who don't understand our illness DON'T KNOW how to help. I have no polar depression and panic anxiety. I was diagnosed with anxiety after a mental breakdown five yrs ago.
My anxiety is more manageable (with meds) than the depression. I go through every episode wondering if I'll make it back to my happy self again.

So saddened to hear of so many people being depressed and lonely. I am feeling it too. Finishing up a divorce and living on my own since Nov. I am already feeling lonely. Crazy. But I am feeling less depressed somewhat. My marriage was rough. Now I am able to pick up from the wreckage and very slowly progress into some calm and happiness. Still get depressed and lonely though. I just have to continue rebuilding no matter how slow it goes and not give up. How do people get passed the loneliness though? Thankful for my job. I actually look forward to work to have someone to talk too.

@jacquiblu2 I myself in my 40's and living with depression since I was a teenager. Do your symptoms ever shift? Do you get angry or agitated? Emotional (with crazy thoughts and tears). Sometimes I lay in bed at night and think "tomorrow if I get up and go do...."(whatever) maybe I can change my mood. But when morning comes it's like the depression is worse than the day before.
I'm on the same meds I started on 12 yrs ago. If I go off them, my depression is really bad. When I DO take them, I still have symptoms but can manage them(Sometimes). @jacquiblu2 what do you do when you feel yourself slipping into a depression?

@Ms.BK You may want to connect with your doctor about your meds. I'm sure a lot has changed in 12 years.
I was in and out of talk therapy through the years. I've been disabled for about 10 years now. Don't get out a lot. What do I do when bad depression hits? Pray. I also play my music and sing along. Talk to my friends on YouTube or Facebook. Tell myself that things will change. A person has to have hope. Hope for a better tomorrow.

@Stroebe97 it is very difficult. I went through one divorce in my 20s - he was the father of my son. At that particular time my son was 2 and I worked so much just to pay off debt- I honestly think that's what kept me sane. I'm now 38- last year I started working from home and slipping back into a depression. My fiance started giving another woman attention because I was struggling at home. My 10 year relationship with him just ended and I have to admit that this time things are different. Still working from home is isolating. I'm thankful that my son is older- at 15- we play similar video games, watch same movies etc.. so that keeps me busy. Yesterday was a rough day being valentines day and I cleaned all day- even things that were already clean. I find that distraction helps. I also let people come over and visit whenever. At first I was embarrassed to tell people how I was feeling- then I realized that I need help and support. I will get better faster with others. It's another reason I joined this forum. Hope some of this info helps!

@Ms.BK you are absolutely right that people that have never been through this don't understand. They feel its like a switch you can turn on and off. I have been on the same medication since I was 18- so 20 years. Only stopped for approx 2 years during pregnancy. I feel it helps- I just struggle when something happens or honestly sometimes for no reason at all. I am able to get out of bed and function on my med and I'm scared to switch it. I guess I just remember how bad things were before it. I hope you are doing ok today!

This forum is incredibly helpful. To combat depression, simply schedule a session with a therapist. If the medicine isn't working, consider spravato treatment.
