I have a last generation glucose meter, covered by medicare. It is not too bad, but I have heard good things about the libre.

My diabetic supplies are covered by Medicare. I had no choice in meters and was sent Prodigy. The meter talks. I am not visually impared and do not need a meter that talks. I appreciate having my supplies covered by Medicare but this is an example of the waste that occurs with insurance. Prodigy is very expensive and I’m sure the strips are also. I would have preferred a less expensive meter. When I called A-1 Diabetes I was talked down to when I attempted to explain I did not require an expensive meter that talks. I was stuck with this meter.

I have a Freestyle lite, covered by Medicare. Tricare is my secondary and also my pharmacy coverage. It's a very good meter and I've been very satisfied with it. Before Tricare made me change, I had A Bayer Contour, also a very good meter. I've tried several otc meters and mostly found them lacking, giving me readings 10-15 and sometimes even 20 pts different from the Freestyle or Bayer. I did manage to find a GE meter otc, about $9 for 50 strips that gives a reading comparable to my ins sponsored meter, I carry it with me when I'm out and about.

@emalies Hello emalies, thank you for your comment. What do you like about the G6 over the True Metrix?
Take care,
Courtney

I was using the contour next which is excellent but I find the libre cgm easier. The dexicom6 cgm is not that great
the sensors do not always work and I found too many were defective no longer using.

I just got the Freestyle Libre and found the readings vary up to 10 points when
I use Prodigy. Anyone else experience this?

Is anyone having different readings between a libre and contour next. I get readings which are 30 points higher on
the contour next. I don't know if the libre cgm can be trusted. I am thinking of just using the contour next and dumping the libre.

Hi. My name is Krystal and I'm a type 2 diabetic and I am on a insulin pump and my insurance won't cover the Contour link 2.4 test strips or Lancets but only cover the freestyle. I go see my endocrinologist tomorrow and I'm supposed to bring my pump n meter with me but the meter that came with it only has a few readings on it from the day I started, I don't know what to do. Any advice or suggestions would alot thank you.

Hi Krystal. Take the pump and meter with you to your appointment and be honest with your doctor. Tell them your situation with your insurance company and he or she may be able to write you a new prescription for something that your insurance will be able to cover. It’s so important for you to have all your prescriptions so you can control your diabetes. Hopefully they’ll be able to get you back on track. Good luck. 🤗

Hey all,
What BG Monitor/Meter do you use and what are your opinions of it compared to others you have tried?
Also what is your experience with insurance coverage for the meters and strips? any beneficial information?
