Hello @Thouston, thank you for opening this discussion. That's so good to hear that you're doing better! That must be hard to go through all of those emotions when you're in a manic episode. Let me tag some other members who can possibly share with you.
Hi everyone, how do you feel when you go through a manic or hypomanic episode? Do you feel agitated and angry or hyperactive and creative? Do you get involved in risky behavior like gambling, spending sprees, etc? How do you feel afterwards?

When I go through a manic episode I am agitated and hyperactive. I don't usually get angry. I go on spending sprees and become very promiscuous. Thankfully I haven't had one in years. My meds are working pretty well.

My manic episodes were marked by insomnia and anxiety. I formerly self-medicated, but never was particularly successful. Now I leave the meds to doctors with mixed results. I have fewer anxiety attacks, but still struggle with insomnia for 2-3 days followed by 2 days of sleeping.

It took almost 10 years for my doctors to get my meds right. I just sat my ass at home for ten years and waited for something to work. I also would get very bad insomnia followed by depression and sleepiness after my mania ended.

I was diagnosed at age 45. Many years of manic episodes followed by deep, dark, depression. So many spending sprees, being promiscuous, and oh boy did I have anger issues. If I vary my schedule/routine by very much I start spiraling. It only takes me staying up later than normal to throw me into a manic phase. It doesn't help that I am rapid cycling, along with ADHD, and being OCD. I had suffered with deep, dark depression until being placed on Latuda. It has changed my life by helping to bring me out of my depression.

@Classycathy Absolutely! Try the cannabis pens. The come in Sativa (energetic high), Indica (a mellow and relaxing high) or blends. You can read on the box to see what the strain type is so you don’t grab the wrong one. I use Indica during my manic episodes. While it doesn’t completely rid me of the mania, but it definitely helps and gives me some relief. I believe you can buy them online. Our friends usually have them on hand so we get ours that way. Good luck!🍀

I have leveled out with my Bipolar lately. Meds finally kicked in and I am not crying and feeling useless anymore. Agitated and violent feeling subsided. I try to be very careful because I use to get very violent in those times. Have physically hurt people in those cases, even went to jail. Hope others are doing well.
