I feel certain that my control, my ability to regulate my blood sugar is tied directly to my ability to be resilient. When I can take myself back after being hijacked by one of my parts, I feel serenity, and I trust that I am taking care of myself. The mind is not in the head it is in the body.

I don't believe it can cause diabetes, however, I do believe if you are stressed it doesn't help your situation.

I kinda see both sides of the coin, what I mean is that while I don’t believe that stress can cause Diabetes. I believe that it can cause you to eat the wrong food and not taking your medication like you should including not taking it.

Hey @maryanne1! How are you?
thank you for starting this discussion! Stress can be a major factor for diabetes patients. Avoiding stress or practicing stress-release activities, such as meditation or journaling, is recommended. I will tag some members who might want to share their thoughts on this topic.

Stress definitely causes my blood sugar to swing wildly. It often causes hypoglycemia when I'm not expecting it. I dabble in techniques to reduce stress but I should be more dedicated to it.

@Polina.K I meditate when I remember. I try to start each day by telling myself that there is truly nothing to get stressed about and to remain positive as much as I can. I also journal, a way to get it all out of my brain.

As someone with diabetes, I can definitely say that stress plays a role. It's not necessarily the root cause but can exacerbate the condition. I've noticed that my sugar levels tend to spike more often when I'm more stressed. Stress doesn't exactly "cause" diabetes, but it can worsen the condition or contribute to other factors that might lead to it.

@Shenita Agree! Chronic stress can contribute to factors like weight gain and increased blood sugar, which might up the risk for diabetes.
I consulted with Mark Payne, a health coach from the MFM clinic. He highlighted the importance of stress management with diabetes and even developed a personalized healthcare plan for me. This plan focused on a diet rich in fibers, antioxidants, and omega-3s, a stress management strategy, and a unique wellness routine. Since following it, I've observed more stable sugar levels, with some reduction as well.

I was talking to someone who got diagnosed with diabetes recently and they said that it developed because of the constant stress that they were under. What do you think? Can stress cause diabetes?
