I count carbs to help regulate BG levels and as a way to stay healthy. We all know that carbs, especially fast digesting ones can affect us with diabetes much differently than those without diabetes.
The app BG monitor helps me! There are other apps out there also, so I would recommend you all checking them out if you are struggling doing so manually, which becomes quite trivial.

Hello all from a newbie,
I was just diagnosed 3 days ago with Type 2. I am all aboard with the dietary changes. I am getting mixed messages when it comes to how many carbs I should shoot for. The CDC and other governmental sites I have looked at recommend 40% - 45% of my calories come from carbs. I'm a pretty big dude. I am also trying to lose weight so a reduced calorie diet for me is about 2500 calories daily. If I follow their guidelines that leaves me with about 280 grams of carbs per day.
I have started joining diabetic forums and I am seeing some people who are limiting their carbs to between 20 and 50 grams per day. That is a huge discrepancy. For those of you that count carbs, what are your daily goals? Thanks!
Edit: I totally tried to hijack this thread. I apologize for that. I just got carried away looking for answers. Would it be preferable if I post this as a new thread? Sorry!

@RGabbart Hello RGabbart, thanks for commenting on this older discussion! "Hijacking" threads is not only welcome, but it encouraged! Let me tag some other members so they can weigh in on this.
Hi everyone, how are you doing? Do any of you count carbs as a way to take control of your diet or diabetes? If so, what are your daily goals? Like RGabbart said, it seems like there is some conflicting information out there, so what do you do?

Diabetes diet has some very delectable carbs, vegetables, eggs, fish, cereal, little bread, and some snacks included in my daily meals... I've lost 72 pounds of weight since 2015 until now in 2020!!! I feel great!!! Look better too....

@RGabbart Ugh I agree with you, it's very confusing. Has your doctor recommended anything? I was told to aim for the 40-45% range.
@ccm675 Wow that's amazing you managed that just by carb counting?

Hello Carenity members,
Carbohydrate counting (carb counting)is a tool utilized by those with and without diabetes.
Do you count carbohydrates? Do you find it helpful in maintaining your blood glucose levels close to normal? Do you have any other similar tips in managing your blood glucose?
For those not familiar with carb counting, it involves monitoring the amount of carbohydrates in the foods you eat at each meal throughout the day and with the right balance it can help manage your blood glucose.
