Have you tried any other GLP-1 medications or is Victoza the first? From what I have heard is that people who have have used insulin or DiaBeta or Glucotrol have seen better results with GLP-1, not to mention GLP-1 medications may also tend to lead to weight loss instead of weight gain.

Has anyone else actually used Victoza on this site? I was wondering about the off label slow start to avoid side effects. I have heard that you can start with just a few clicks and go up a bit each day and it will help reduce the side effects. Has anyone else done this and have it work? I'd like to start with just half the dose and slowly increase to .6, then so on until I get to my 1.2.

Hello @jtd0906, thank you for your comment! I've moved it to this pre-existing discussion about Victoza for more visibility.
Can anyone share their experience with Victoza? Did you have any side effects? If so, how did you manage them? If not, did you try the slow start method jtd0906 describes?

As a follow up to my question I did speak with my doctor about slow starting Victoza and she said that was perfectly acceptable if you worry about side effects. So tomorrow I will be giving it a go at half the starting dose, so .3mg and every day I will click one more turn until I'm at .6mg, then she wants me to remain on that dose for at least a week, more if I have side effects still working out. Then I will up a click each day or two until I get to 1.2mg. She said sometimes going slowly like this will reduce the big side effects when you jump a dose. She also side it's entirely likely to not have ANY side effects, but if you're like me and don't want to take the chance this is my doctors recommendation. I have young kids and one is autistic so I just can't be down with nausea or bowel issues.

@Polina.K I have been on Victoza at 1.8 daily for about 5 years. No discernable side effects for me. I am concerned though about possible side effects such as pancreatitus and medullary thyroid cancer, but all these meds have side effects.
