@Magmil84,
I have never applied for disability for Crohns - yet... but, I know some people who have applied for disability for Crohn's and other conditions. There are a lot of ins and outs in order to get disability. Factors are age, diagnosis, what you say to the doctors in medical reports, how many hours you are currently working, etc.
The ones I know that were turned down, I think about 80% used an attorney and then got approved. It is all about arguing. What state are you in?

I live in Florida. I’m only 33 years old and I haven’t worked in 6 years. When I did work it was as a full time bank teller but I eventually had to quit most of my jobs due to too many absences.

I live in Lakeland Florida. It’s about an hour away from Tampa. I have not contacted a lawyer yet. I’m currently trying to find one that will take me seriously and really fight for me.

I live in Georgia and I was also told that it was not serious enough to receive disability but after missing so many off work due to being in the hospital and getting sick on the job I can't hold a job is there anything we can do?

I’m in the process, AGAIN applied last year, never heard anything back either way. So I went back to work also missing a lot do to Crohn’s, was just hospitalized AGAIN from 7-8-18 thru 7-13-18 so I called again they said it was just sitting there pending. I had to now wait thirty days, we’ll it's been thirty plus haven’t heard a thing. So crazy confusing how you have to beg for your own money I just don’t get it. This disease is so unpredictable. Hoping not to have to hire an attorney. Any advice or suggestions welcomed.

I live in WV~Almost Heaven, so they say! I lost many jobs over the years & it can be VERY frustrating fighting for disability. It took me about 4-5 yrs, denied x3 by paperwork, then I finally got an Attorney! Decided for ALL the ppl who like me suffer from Crohn's, that I was going to FIGHT! In my state, there is a limit placed on the Legal system as to how many $ they can charge & ONLY get paid IF Disability is awarded. You don't pay anything until the end & they deduct it from your award. I was FINALLY successful but only after my Attorney & I went to my Hearing & got before a Judge! It really was not too bad once I got in front of a REAL person & we were able answer the questions personally! They even brought in a "Work Specialist" because they believe that you CAN work at "something." After questioning by the Judge~ the Specialist stated there was no job I could do, because the laws do not allow special circumstances for one employee & not all others. Then I had to wait 30 days for the decision. I felt confident that we had won because the Judge smiled at me & told me to go home & enjoy my grandkids while I was able. :)) Make sure the Attorney specializes in Disability cases & be careful as many are just after your money! I asked around in my circle of friends @ church, local people, others on disability & medical persons that I trusted & found a GREAT one. In the process, my Doctor also wrote a letter to the Judge which really helped in the decision. Don't give up~Keep trying~Crohn's Disease is on the Federal List of Disabilities & get YOUR DAY in front of a Disability Judge!! ?

Have you spoke with an attorney? I have just heard horror stories about people applying with RA and chrome and getting denied when they apply alone.
Then attorney takes their case and it gets approved. All politics I guess.

Interested. What has your experience been? What type of denial does the government tell you? Is it through letter or an in-person interview? How do the guage if it is "serious enough"?

two months ago I went into the Social Security office and filled out a ton of paperwork to apply for disability. Within a month of doing that I received a letter in the mail explaining that Crohn’s disease should not prevent me from being able to hold a job down. Every job I’ve had I’ve lost due to too many absences, surgeries and emergency room visits. Has anyone successfully gotten on disability and if so did you use a lawyer?
