@Marylin Hello Marylin, you bring up a great point. I think accepting one's diagnosis can be an incredible challenge, but once you do it can give you the strength and motivation to conquer it!
Hello members, do any of you have any words of advice for Marylin? How did you come to accept your diagnosis?

@Marylin Hi Marylin, I definitely understand this feeling. It took me a while to accept that I have this. I went through the typical anger and then depression. Like @Foodlover said, I also eventually took it as a good thing, as a motivator. It was that kick in the pants that motivated me to take control of my body and my life. What helped for me was setting little milestones or goals for me when i was trying to make changes in my lifestyle (diet, weight, exercise, etc), and it would be even more motivating when I'd achieve them! And joining a site like this where i could talk to people going through the same thing as me or who had already been through it really helped. Asking questions and reading peoples' answers really helps.

@Marylin Hey Marylin, you can do this! Diabetes is not a death sentence, thank goodness. At the beginning it can all be really overwhelming and you may think that you'll never be able to handle it all, but you can! If I can do it, you can! But you know all of this after 5 years. :) We're all here rooting for you on this site! How are you feeling now?

@Marylin I get this. I had a hard time accepting that I had diabetes too. I can't really tell you how I accepted it, I think I just finally realized that it's something I have to live with if I want to live. I just had to put on my big girl panties and get a hold on it and my life. I'm doing better now, struggling with the weight a bit, but I'm doing better. You can do this too!

For so long ive been anting to forget and act like it never happened because its hard to just imagine your life changing wether you like it or not. I guess my question is how do I approach my diabetes in a way that I wont regret it and run the other way? How do I make it past that denial I still have after 5 years without the first step being acceptance?
