@normsie Tomsulosin alters the hormone balance in a man's body. The side effects for me have been total erectile dysfunction and the cessation of production of all seminal fluids. I still have the minor facial and body hair as before the drug, but I never had much hair growth except on the top of my head. Maybe I'm oversensitive because my voice is rather high for a man and on the telephone I'm often addressed as "Mrs." On the other hand my cousin is woman and the pitch of her voice is on the low side, so on the telephone she is addressed as "Mr." I don't want anything to make me less masculine even though our society treats male characteristics as genetic defects. Maybe your body is different and you don't have this issue.

I just got done with 6 weeks 39 treatments of radiation . The only real side affect i had was some pain while urniating. My energy level never really decreased. I am 65 and in pretty good shape. Work out every day and do take a lot of supplements every day. The pain still exists while urinating but seems to be getting better now that i am done with the treatments. I follow up in a month with my doctor to see how i am progressing. And 8 weeks i will have a psa check. Did not to go with surgery because of the problems with leaking while sleeping or lifting any thing heavy. I have read that in studies the ginger root helps fight off prostrate cancer so been taking that and apple cider vinger since finding out last October that i had cancer that was medium to low on test results.

Has anyone been given Lupron injections for prostrate Cancer to lower the PSA. My father has had 5 injections of Lupron and has numerous side effects. Agitation, mood swings, night sweats, not sleeping, fatigue, foggy and not remembering. He is 90 years old and was just fine until all these injections. His PSA is down to 1 and the radiologist wants to give him another injection. The cancer is confined to only the prostrate . He wants to do what ever the doctor says. It is a living nightmare. Any suggestions?

I had the radiation treatment 39 to be exact. But had little side effects. Just a little discomfort when urinating. But i have been done with my treatments for a week and that discomfort getting better. I am 65 and a a gleason score of 3. I opted out of surgery due to the problems after surgery.

I have been getting Lupron shots for 7 months. I have the side effects listed above plus bone aching tiredness. The purpose of the hormone is to kill testosterone, which feed cancer. I think the treatment is continuous. I am still a bit on the fence as to wether this treatment is worth it or not. My PSA is down to 0.08. I have 4 metastatic bone cancer from prostrate cancer.

I did the 5 days of heavy radiation instead of the 40, I wish I had done the 40 it seemed like a long time then. I di do 40 days in the Hyberbaric chamber. I still have leakage after 2 years and wear pads which i change 3 to 4 times a day. I get tired like all of us, but continue to exercise and play golf

I disparately need to find a way for a man to receive professional treatment for prostate cancer without surrendering his genitals to a misandristic sadistic female to abuse him as she pleases. I do not understand the male doctors who hate another man of any race, ethnicity or religion that they serve as accomplices to allow a female to abuse another man through his genitals

I had 33 radiation EBRT and one 45 mg Lupron injection after a recurrence of stage 3 PC. The radiation side effects subsided after about two weeks upon completion, but the Lupron is a bit different.
The Lupron side effects are not to be underestimated; they are severe (at least for me) and everything thing hurt; joints, muscles, and then some. I felt terrible all the time. I only had to have one injection (as of this date) and am glad of it.
I doubt that I would have done the radiation seeds (though that isn’t an option for me now since I had my prostate removed) but the EBRT wasn’t as bad as I thought it may have been. The Lupron I would have to really think about before doing it again.
I am 55 yo and was diagnosed at 53 with a Gleason score of 3+4. I had my prostate removed as the first treatment, and then a recurrence 14 months later. I am 2 weeks post life 45mg Lupron injection, and 18 weeks post EBRT. My PSA is currently .02

Hey everyone. I have noticed that there has been recently an increasing amount of discussions regarding Lupron Treatment. Therefore, since the topic of this discussion is surgery vs radiation, to keep this discussion centered around that topic but also to facilitate discussions about Lupron injections, I have created a discussion specifically on the topic of Lupron injections >> click here: Lupron Treatment Discussion << @Raymond @Rbeck1234 @Jolihemi5
I would also encourage anyone who would like to discuss anything other than the pros and cons of surgery vs radiation to search the forums to see if a similar topic has been created and comment on that discussion or create a new discussion. This will help ensure the topic of this discussion is not lost for members who hope to discuss this topic and also ensure unrelated topics are more easily seen by members. Please let me know if I can assist.

Is removal and/or radiation better for small, slow growing, tumors in prostate?

I made the decision to have my proste removed and it was not an easy time... just as hard as finding out you had prostate cancer... I was advised by my doctors the surgery was the best option because of my age and the harmful affects of radiation longterm. For me, once I made the decision, I did have the peace of mind knowing that the actual cancer was "removed" instead of just treated... which, I guess, did give me some sense of comfort.
The biggest issue for me once the surgery was done and I was on the road to recovering was the effects it had on me emotionally/psychologically, which many people in my opinion overlook. I encourage anyone and everyone, when diagnosed with prostate cancer, before and after treatment and during, to seek psychological help... there is nothing wrong with it. Medications, counseling, and just talking about your feelings can help tremendously. Do not hold it all in and try to battle the anxiety and depression because this diagnosis will affect you, no matter how strong you may consider yourself to be.
The sexual effects treatment has on you will also affect you mentally, because your sexual ability and ability to have kids will likely be affected. Your performance ability can be likely fixed, but it can still affect you mentaly. Take care of yourself.
