@ericoltk the A1C does not require fasting. You can do the fasting plasma glucose which requires fasting or the
Oral Glucose Tolerance Test.

HELLO FRIENDS,
I HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING MORE PAIN, THAN I WOULD NOT LIKE TO MENTION!! THAT IS WHY I HAVE NOT POSTED NOR, HAD A CHANCE TO LOOK INTO A CHAT ROOM.(where we can meet)
A CHAT ROOM, SEEMS TO BE HARD TO GET GOING?? DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY EXPERIENCE CONCERNING MAKING A CHAT ROOM?? WE NEED IT SO WE CAN KEEP TRACK OF THE PEOPLE THAT HAVE LUPUS. I FEEL AS IF I HAVE NOT DONE ENOUGH. I AM IN A MAJOR FLARE UP. I JUST HOPE IT WOULD SETTLE DOWN...PLEASE KEEP ME IN YOUR PRAYERS. THIS IS NOT VERY GOOD. I HAD TO CANCEL A KNEE REPLACEMENT. NOW, I HAVE PUT IT OFF AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE. I AM A VERY SLOW HEALER, LIKE MOST OF YOU!!!!! IT TAKES TIME AND I HAVE NO TOLERANCE FOR PAIN. I CAN NOT HANDLE IT ANYMORE. WHEN I WAS A CHILD,THEY CALLED ME LAZY!!!!! I WAS NOT LAZY, I WAS SICK. IT IS A SHAME MY FATHER DID NOT LIVE TO SEE THAT I HAD A SERIOUS PROBLEM. NOW, MY PARENTS ARE RESTING IN PEACE...(I PRAY) I HOPE SOME OF THE PARENTS READ THIS AND MANY OTHER ARTICLES ON DEALING WITH LUPUS AND PAIN.
THIS IS NOT A JOKE, AND THE CHILDREN SUFFER NOT JUST PHYSICALLY BUT MENTALLY.. IT IS A CRY FOR HELP!! I WAS GROWING UP IN NEW JERSEY AND MY PARENTS TOOK ME TO A SPECIALIST. HE TOLD MY MOTHER,"THEIR IS NOTHING WRONG WITH YOUR DAUGHTER"!!! WHY DID HE NOT TEST MY BLOOD AND CHECK MY BODY HEAD TO TOE?? THAT IS WHAT I WENT THROUGH. I PRAY ALWAYS, THAT THE CHILDREN WITH LUPUS; DO NOT SUFFER AS I DID. I HAVE DONE AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE TO GIVE EQUAL TIME ON TV, RADIO. I SHARED A ROOM WITH A WOMAN WHO SPOKE NO ENGLISH JUST ITALIAN. I WAS FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO TELL, THE NURSE WHAT SHE WANTED AND NEEDED. WELL, SHE PASSED AWAY AND SHE WAS MY HOSPITAL ROOM MATE....
HER SON, CAME INTO THE ROOM. HE SAID "WHAT CAN I DO FOR YOU??, LET ME PAY YOU FOR MAKING MY MOTHER'S LAST DAYS COMFORTABLE. IT WAS A SITUATION, THE NURSES DID NOT GO OUT OF THEIR WAY TO HELP THIS OLD LADY. I DID TELL THEM A LITTLE BUT, I WAS TOO SICK MYSELF. (I WAS NOT DX WITH LUPUS AT THE TIME) I FOUND OUT THAT THE MAN WORKED FOR CHANNEL 2 AND 11 NEWS. I TOLD HIM, IF YOU REALLY WANT TO HELP ME. PLACE A PUBLIC NOTICE ON TV FOR LUPUS AWARENESS. HE SAID IT WAS NOT A PROBLEM. I WENT HOME WITHOUT THE KIDNEY INFECTION. LITTLE DID I KNOW, HE CALLED ME AND SAID "MICHELE, LOOK AT CHANNEL, 11 AND TOMORROW AT THE SAME TIME LOOK AT CHANNEL 2"... WELL, THEIR IT WAS, A ACTRESS WITH THE NAME OF MINNIE PEARL DID A PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT....
"DO YOU KNOW SOMEONE WITH LUPUS"?? I WAS SURPRISED AND A BIT HAPPY..IT WENT SO QUICKLY--I ONLY PRAYED THAT SOMEONE HEARD IT.
SO, I HAVE DONE AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE FOR LUPUS AWARENESS. IT STILL NOT THE DISEASE OF THE MONTH CLUB!! I CALL IT. I THOUGHT, THIS MAN HE DID TRY TO GIVE IT EQUAL TIME ON TV BUT, IT WAS NOT ENOUGH. I RAN A SUPPORT GROUP IN ONTARIO, CALIFORNIA OF 150 PEOPLE AND EVERY TIME WE HAD A MEETING MORE PEOPLE SHOWED UP.!! IT GOT TO THE POINT STANDING ROOM ONLY!!!!!!! WE COULD NOT MEET AGAIN BECAUSE IT WOULD OF BEEN A FIRE HAZARD. TO THIS VERY DAY, I DO NOT KNOW WHERE I CAN FIT 150 PEOPLE. THE PROBLEM IS THE AMOUNT WAS GROWING AND NO SEATS...PEOPLE COULD NO LONGER STAND UP.
I DID WHAT I COULD AND NOW, I AM SO SICK. I CAN NOT LONGER HOLD MEETINGS. THEIR WAS NOT ONE PERSON WHO WANTED THE RESPONSIBILITY!! TO THIS VERY DAY. NOT ONE PERSON CALLED ME FROM THE LUPUS FOUNDATION NOR THE ARTHRITIS FOUNDATION. SO, I GUESS YOU CAN SAY I AM IN LIMBO. NEITHER HERE NOR THERE IN TRYING TO FOLLOW THRU. I AM TOO SICK. I PRAY FOR A REMISSION AND I HAVE A CLEAR CONSCIOUS, I DID THE BEST I COULD.
SO, IF ANYONE IS READING THIS, I WOULD LIKE YOUR ADVICE AND RECOMMENDATION!!!!!! WHAT IS NEXT?? PLEASE DO WRITE ME WHEN YOU COME UP FOR AIR FROM DAILY CHALLENGES.
ALWAYS PRAYING FOR ALL OF US.

@mickey Praying for you! I hope you are doing better.
I think a chatroom would be great... but for me, the forums seem to be awesome, but I just understand that responses may be delayed some.
Do you have diabetes in addition to your lupus?

@Lee__R No matter what I will not use sugar substitutes like Stevia, fake sugar or, for that matter, fake anything. I eat what I want, including sugary foods and carbs. Am I diabetic? Well, the ER physician who said that I was took routine blood tests, including blood sugar, when my partner brought me to the ER when my emphysema was acting up and even the rescue inhaler wasn't helping. However, only about two hours before that I had eaten dinner and had a glass of milk - and milk is actually considered to be liquid sugar (or so I've been told). I told that to the ER physician, but he brushed if off and even got nasty, telling me that he was the doctor, not me. Since then, however, as I had been labeled diabetic by that ER physician and it's on my medical record, my blood sugar is routinely tested whenever I visit a doctor or go to the ER, but it's always within the normal range be it fasting or non-fasting. So, as far as I'm concerned, I am not diabetic, especially since I never have had any of the symptoms - no polyphagia, no polydipsia, and no polyuria. Always remember, you are in charge of your own health and your own body, and physicians are not gods (even though some of them think they are) so they do make mistakes, like the physician who said I was diabetic; he apparently does think that he is a god and doesn't make mistakes - and he is 100% wrong.

@uncleanatol I'm the same way, I prefer to avoid all of that junk. I don't like the idea of the chemicals or industrially-derived whatever they put into it. That's awful what happened to you in the ER! No one should treat you that way, especially not a doctor! And the fact that now you have that on your record! Have you asked your primary care doctor about it??

@new2diabetes I don't have a PCP. My pulmonologist is also a Critical Care specialist and I avoid the ER like the plague. So when I do end up there it's a critical situation so he gets called. I'm in charge of my own health, my own body, so I don't need a PCP to tell me what to do to regulate my life and my health.

Many brands now offer sugar-free alternatives to their regular products.
What do you think of these products as a diabetic? Do you recommend a particular brand?
Do you often allow yourself to endulge in such sweets? Without sugar does not mean without carbohydrates, so are you still vigilant in your purchases in regard to the carbs?
Share your opinion on the diet you are following and the ideal diet!
Have a good day, everyone.
