I have bipolar as long as I can remeber. I've had outbursts, temper tantrums and fits. I hate having these, but they come with bipolar.
I used to take lithium. It made me shake so I quit taking that and went years without treatment. I went absolutely crazy. Drinking, partying, having sex, not knowing where I was. It was bad.
I'm back on the right medication now and doing very well. It took me time to get back. I think I was just wore out.

@Kenzie22 for bipolar, you have to be on a steady regimen of medication or else you slide into depression or a manic state,
without my medication, I can’t sleep, my mind won’t shut down

@Courtney_J I have had very bad manic attacks in my early adulthood
been in and out of mental institutions, been homeless a couple of times, but I am 70 now and very stable with a nightly medication of Seroquil

I was diagnosed with bipolar I when I was 18. I didn't know what it was so I didn't take it seriously. I didn't take medication for the longest time. I got myself into a lot of trouble with out it. I drank a lot and partied. Then I'd go into a depression and wouldn't do anything but drink thinking that was helping. Vicious cycle. I finally quit drinking during Lent and haven't picked it up since. I've had up's and downs with my bipolar and it sucks to have it. You never know when it's going to hit. You could be on vacation and depression hits at a funeral and mania hits. I stay at home I don't go out the only time I go out is to pick my medication up at Walmart once a month. Last time I didn't have to do it. YAY! Oh and I do have to go to my PCP and therapist. My psychiatrist is over the phone. It has made me make terrible decisions that I'm ashamed of. Time I'll never get back. Friends I've lost. It's a terrible thing to have.

@Classycathy Absolutely! Try the cannabis pens. The come in Sativa (energetic high), Indica (a mellow and relaxing high) or blends. You can read on the box to see what the strain type is so you don’t grab the wrong one. I use Indica during my manic episodes. While it doesn’t completely rid me of the mania, but it definitely helps and gives me some relief. I believe you can buy them online. Our friends usually have them on hand so we get ours that way. Good luck!🍀

Hello everyone,
How are you doing today?
I thought we could use a space to introduce ourselves and talk about our experiences with bipolar disorder.
What is your bipolar disorder story? How were you diagnosed? Were you diagnosed as a teen or later as an adult? How are you doing now? What medications or treatments have you tried?
Feel free to share your story, your advice or your support here!
