I don't foresee myself getting addicted to my Doctor's prescribed Medications, okay? I am not an addict by nature, yes I'm a recovering alcoholic of sorts for 30 years now!!! I am not inclined to be into drugs that either makes me high or seriously ill....I am a smart consumer....I educate myself on my particular Medications, and learn from each one that I take....I did make one mistake with my medications but, I am on the right one for me now, which is Latuda....Trial and error, of course with everything else , I guess!!! So get educated about them alright?

@ccm675 Many people in my family have died from drug addiction. The doctor's prescripted meds killed my aunt because of how addicted and how much she took. In my opinion, I'd just rather get through all my problems on my own. It makes me feel stronger in a way. Taking medicine to help my depression would just make me feel weak if that makes any sense. I understand it helps some people, but I just don't want to dependant on that.

@Snookie I can relate to being treated differently by family and people I once called friends, (actually acquaintances)
I don't seek friends and I'm fine with that, as I find I don't trust. Anyway, your comment really hit home. Oh forgot to mention I have bipolar 1, among a few other labels.

My husband left me after 38 years of marriage....I Met him and detox in May of 1983: and he’s 8 day sober longer, than me.
I “was “sectioned “: 2019: because I had a nervous break down. I’ve had 8 pregnancies and seven live births. In July ‘99:I was driving, my motorcycle, . . Horrific motorcycle accident.....(the car saw the truck behind me but not “me. “,l......I was in a coma for a month, had 21 pint of blood, had a “PANORAMIC BEEAK of my face: which means “EVERY BONE WAS BROKEN,!!””” Also, .… I lost my sense of smell and vision in one eye. I had to literally learn how to walk again I have seven pins in my leg.
husband #2 , finally got fed up with me & moved ....somebody else in the house, we designed....and move pd me into a beautiful mobile home....
But the devastation hit me very hard that’s when I was declared bipolar it took a month or two for them to get the medicine right....Recovering addict and alcoholic of almost 38 years!,,I recently found bphome and clarity!!!EXCELLENT.... and enjoy this site...also-stayingcyber.com is great for any addiction or alcoholic recovering..24 seven posting. Steps traditions search button look up topic ur choice.

@Kenzie22 Taking medication for bipolar illness is important. I have been on medications for 19 years now and have been pretty stable the whole time. I will never not take my medications. I don't want my life to be a rollercoaster ride, which is what it was before I started taking medications. Therapy helps too but you have to be taking medications also to be totally well as a bipolar person.

I'd really like for Kenzie to talk to a knowledgeable Doctor for her medications....I fully believe that mine work now for me....I am not an addict of any kind....I've been sober from alcohol for 30 years....Didn't have a big drug problem when I was a teen....I am stable now, and feel they work for me!!! I am not a proponent of bad medications for me, though....I took some Depakote that made me very ill....Almost died....I'm fortunate to be alive....I am happy now living in Norway, Maine....I've been here for going on 7 years now....I moved into the in-town area since I don't drive anymore....I have several friends, not close friends, but we like to talk to one another on occasion as well.... Love to socialize, and make new friends....I am doing that here too, I think....

@Blondie61 Well, I've been in therapy but in my experience, it doesn't help me either. I don't see how talking to a random person about my issues is going to help me in life. All I'm really doing is getting things off my chest to somebody I don't know nor trust. It gives me a breather in a way but it doesn't change anything. I was depressed for 2 years straight. I never took any medications, I just got through it on my own. It made me stronger, but I get that some people may have a different opinion, and that's your right. Writing music and listening to it got me through my depression. Not a lot of people will understand that. It was all personal things I was going through or feeling that I wrote down.

@Kenzie22 I’ve seen a lot of therapists and I have to say the good ones didn’t just talk with me. They helped me set goals about what I wanted to change within my life and then helped me figure out how to achieve these goals. I actually have homework to do in a sense that makes me look at the situation I’d issue I am going through or dealing with. But I also do take meds and after ten years I think I’ve found the right schedule as I am stable now. I still get depressed some days but not nearly as low as I was for 6 years. I suggest trying therapy but make sure you set goals and arent just talking like old friends. Good luck

@Witchy65 I feel you on that, but therapy isn't for me. It doesn't help me. It may work for many others, but not me. I've been to many professional therapists, and they all ask me/ tell me the same thing. I'd rather figured things out on my own because that's what I've always done.

@Classycathy Absolutely! Try the cannabis pens. The come in Sativa (energetic high), Indica (a mellow and relaxing high) or blends. You can read on the box to see what the strain type is so you don’t grab the wrong one. I use Indica during my manic episodes. While it doesn’t completely rid me of the mania, but it definitely helps and gives me some relief. I believe you can buy them online. Our friends usually have them on hand so we get ours that way. Good luck!🍀

Hello everyone,
How are you doing today?
I thought we could use a space to introduce ourselves and talk about our experiences with bipolar disorder.
What is your bipolar disorder story? How were you diagnosed? Were you diagnosed as a teen or later as an adult? How are you doing now? What medications or treatments have you tried?
Feel free to share your story, your advice or your support here!
