I was diagnosed after I had my third child. I was in my 20. I am doing better with it but I kind of isolate myself from people that want a friendship were social activities and involved. I lose myself into a real high. . I do have a fiance that I will Ihang out with and my youngest daughter. I lost custody of my kids too their father because I would abuse my meds and used alcohol too bring me down that was 8 years ago. I have a couple years began truly available too my therapy and also stopped using some of meds too sleep. I am been very blessed too being able too story too have healthy relationship with my children!! I am on celxa and Lamitical. I also take buspar and hydrodroxyne too help with the anxiety.

I’ve been depressed almost my whole life. I remember having suicide thoughts at age 5. I figured out how to “fake it til ya make it”. I became the class clown. But I wasn’t having fun. I had postpartum depression with all four of my kids. I was in an abusive marriage. When my youngest was 6 months old I hit bottom. I had a suicide plan that included me taking the baby with me. In my sick thinking I thought he needed to be with me. This was November 2005. I was sent to a mental health hospital. I was there 2 weeks then had 4 weeks of out patient therapy. It was at this time that I was diagnosed. I am now very stable. I have a stressful job in which I supervise 11 attendants at an Assisted Living Facility. I am now married to the man of my dreams (divorced that other creep after 20 years). I’m active in Church. My life almost feels normal. Whatever THAT is! LOL

@Courtney_J Hi my name is Vercina. I live with Bipolar 1, which has mixed episodes. I have been seeking help for my mental since I was 18 years old; I am now 39 years old. Misdiagnosed as having bipolar 2, I am just now got the correct diagnosis a year ago after being in the hospital. I take lithium and risperidone. I am recovering well after my psychotic breakdown. I take my meds, go to therapy, and practice self care.

I was diagnosed 10 years ago but looking back I realize that I have been bipolar most of my life. I don't have any real friends just acquaintances. I'm afraid to let people in because once they discover I have bipolar, they treat me different. If I get a little angry about anything their first question is "are you taking your meds". Then I want to scream at them "yeah I'm taking my meds. I am allowed to get angry."

@MartiES I cried when I read your post. I thank God that you are alive. And I'm not being sarcastic or anything like that. I really mean it.

@Snookie I completely understand what you describe. I hate that too. Just because I feel a certain emotion or I react a certain way doesn't mean I'm "off my meds". Like you said, we're allowed to feel things too!

@Classycathy Absolutely! Try the cannabis pens. The come in Sativa (energetic high), Indica (a mellow and relaxing high) or blends. You can read on the box to see what the strain type is so you don’t grab the wrong one. I use Indica during my manic episodes. While it doesn’t completely rid me of the mania, but it definitely helps and gives me some relief. I believe you can buy them online. Our friends usually have them on hand so we get ours that way. Good luck!🍀

Hello everyone,
How are you doing today?
I thought we could use a space to introduce ourselves and talk about our experiences with bipolar disorder.
What is your bipolar disorder story? How were you diagnosed? Were you diagnosed as a teen or later as an adult? How are you doing now? What medications or treatments have you tried?
Feel free to share your story, your advice or your support here!
